Kyle Chalmers (AUS) took out the gold medal in the men’s 200m freestyle at the Optus Aquatic Centre on Friday 6 April, beating a star-studded line up that included Rio 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist Chad Le CLos.

LE CLOS, who won gold in the 50m butterfly in the first final of the night, led the field for the first half of the race but was unable to maintain his pace. He was overtaken by most of the field, including a fast-finishing Chalmers who touched first in a time of 1:45.56, a personal best time.

Mack Horton (AUS), who won the 400m freestyle on night one, picked up the silver in 1:45.89 and Duncan Scott (SCO) took bronze in 1:46.30.
