Well, it’s that time of year when the search to find Miss Universe Australia is well underway with finalists being selected across the country.
Early next month at the Sofitel on Collins Melbourne the judging panel have the incredibly hard job of selecting the 2015 Miss Universe Australia.
Today we are chatting with finalist Alecia McCallum from New South Wales who is one of the national finalists who will be competing for the 2015 title of Miss Universe Australia and hoping to follow in the footsteps of Jennifer Hawkins, Rachael Finch, Jesinta Campbell and last years winner Tegan Martin.
First of all the all-important introduction tell us a little about you what you do for work, fun etc..?
I live at Nulkaba which is in the beautiful Hunter Valley. I am currently studying Early Childhood and Primary Teaching at the University of Newcastle and this year I became a Newcastle Knight’s cheerleader. My passion is for performing and dancing and in the future I hope to have a professional career as a model and dancer. In my spare time I enjoy reading books, going to the gym and spending time with my family and friends.
Alicia Congratulations on making it so far in such a coveted competition! We have to ask how has the overall experience been so far …? And how are you feelings in the lead up to the finals. ..?
The experience so far has been amazing. I have enjoyed participating in all the events we have been involved in leading up to the National Final competition. For example an interview and photo shoot with the Daily Telegraph and talking to Lauren from Elucent Skincare about their amazing products, but most of all I have loved spending time with and getting to know the other NSW’s finalists. I am excited and a little nervous and cannot wait to go to the finals.
With contestants coming from all over the country and bringing their own individual flare What do you think will set you out from the rest of the finalists competing in the 2015 competition …?
Thanks to my years of performing on stage as a dancer, I am lucky that I don’t suffer with nerves and I am very confident being in front of an audience. I have an amazing ability of remembering choreography and I am able to perform under pressure.
What is something people might find interesting about yourself …?
I am an amazing tap dancer and I can perform acrobatic tricks.
Speaking of a person’s unique flare or style what would you say is your best style or beauty secret …?
My style is very girly and I love to wear dresses and heels. I tend to wear natural makeup, but when I get the chance I love to put on my false eyelashes and red lipstick. Thanks to Elucent skin care I have been able to keep my skin clear and glowing.
With Fitness becoming more and more a part of a person’s personal style how would you describe your fitness regime and how it relates to your life …?
Being a dancer and cheerleader keeping fit & healthy has always been a part of my life. In the lead up to Miss Universe Australia I joined our local gym and I try to make sure I attend 3 to 4 times per week. Flexibility is really important to me and I make sure that I stretch every night. Also I have weekly cheerleading practice and I also coach acrobatics once a week.
Who or what inspired you to get involved in the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …? What drew you to such a competition ….?
Of course it has to be the amazing Jennifer Hawkins. She is from Newcastle, she was a Newcastle Knights Cheerleader and NRL cheerleader of The Year. I remember saying to my mum I am going to be just like her when I get older. This year I am a Newcastle Knights cheerleader and I am their representative in the NRL cheerleader of the year and I am a finalist in Miss Universe Australia.
Speaking of inspiration who inspires you most …?
I would have to say my Family especially my Mum. She has always been able to balance her family and her career commitments and no matter what family always comes first. She is the kind of woman that I hope to become, and I believe she is constantly guiding me to help me to reach my goals & dreams.
The Miss Universe Pageant has a long history of associating with charity are there any social causes that are particularly close to your heart that you would like to use the platform of miss universe to advance …?
I would have to say the Children’s’ Hospital at Westmead because they had the most advanced laser equipment to help my sister. During those 10 years of treatments I got to see lots of children with lots of different illnesses and the support and services they provided was just wonderful. The Bandaged Bear Appeal raises essential funds to purchase the most advanced medical equipment, fund vital research into the causes and cures for childhood illnesses and to maintain the total healing environment central to the wellbeing of children and families.
What is something you hope to bring out of the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …?
This Miss Universe journey has already given me so many amazing opportunities and experiences, and I can only hope that will continue and expand as my journey progresses. I hope to make some great and lasting friendships beyond Miss Universe Australia. I also hope that the experience and exposure from being involved in the Miss Universe Australia pageant can help my performing arts career in the future
