Well, it’s that time of year when the search to find Miss Universe Australia is well underway with finalists being selected across the country.
Early next month at the Sofitel on Collins Melbourne the judging panel have the incredibly hard job of selecting the 2015 Miss Universe Australia.
Today we are chatting with finalist Amelia Dunn from Victoria who is one of the national finalists who will be competing for the 2015 title of Miss Universe Australia and hoping to follow in the footsteps of Jennifer Hawkins, Rachael Finch, Jesinta Campbell and last years winner Tegan Martin.
First of all the all-important introduction tell us a little about yourself…?
I am currently an Arts History Major at Monash University 🙂
I work professionally as a model and actress as well as writing blogs! I’m amidst the publication of my first novel series and hope to have that out in the coming months. I love taking weekly Pilates and dance classes whilst maintaining a healthy vegetarian diet and experimenting with new recipes.
Amelia Congratulations on making it so far in such a coveted competition! We have to ask how has the overall experience been so far …? And how are you feelings in the lead up to the finals. ..?
Thank you! Where do I start haha! It has not only been extremely good for my self-confidence and self-esteem but having met such passionate women in this competition has given me a lot of motivation within my career. I’ve met people who have become lifelong friends which I’m so thankful for. In all honesty I never thought I would make it this far and I’m just incredibly grateful and excited to be in this position. I’m so thankful for the support from both of my parents they have been beyond amazing and extremely caring throughout the entire competition!
With contestants coming from all over the country and bringing their own individual flare What do you think will set you out from the rest of the finalists competing in the 2015 competition …?
Well having a theatre background and doing acting as a profession I’m naturally very open and friendly. I’m very bubbly and often have too much energy to begin with but I’m always polite, having good manners is something I deem as being very important
What is something people might find interesting about yourself …?
When I tell people my degree they are always shocked that I’m majoring in Genocidal Studies. It’s an extremely interesting topic to me, and it’s always interesting when I’m asked why I specify in this field. People are also always enthralled when I say I’m a vegetarian! They get excited by it and I always find that interesting!
Speaking of a person’s unique flare or style what would you say is your best style or beauty secret …? I always have a good attitude! I had an extremely difficult year in 2014 and since then I’ve been extremely appreciative and positive about everything in my life!
With Fitness becoming more and more a part of a person’s personal style how would you describe your fitness regime and how it relates to your life …?
5 mornings a week I go for an hour power walk with my dog, Muffin, before a wholesome breakfast of either porridge or eggs with steamed kale. It’s extremely important that I do this at least 5 days a week, mixed in with Pilates and Dance classes on separate days, three times a week. On weekends my family joins me for my morning walks and we all have breakfast together, my family is very important to me and it’s great when we get out together and incorporate a healthy lifestyle J
Who or what inspired you to get involved in the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …? What drew you to such a competition ….?
It was initially my mum’s suggestion to enter the pageant. I was hesitant at first because I’ve never done something like this, but my mum said it could be an extremely rewarding experience, and I’m so glad I took her advice because it has been such an amazing time for me!
Speaking of inspiration who inspires you most …?
My mum and little sister are two female figures who I really look up to. They’re two of the strongest women I know and I try every day to surround myself with strong, independent women who are proud of who they are. Also, Meryl Streep because she’s simply amazing hahaha
The Miss Universe Pageant has a long history of associating with charity are there any social causes that are particularly close to your heart that you would like to use the platform of miss universe to advance …?
I am extremely passionate about female education not only in Australia but globally as we are underfunded in terms of schools and our equal right to an education across the globe, this is something I want to help to change. I want to become a brand ambassador with HeforShe so I can assist with this problem in any way that I can. It’s very important to me that women just like me globally have the same rights to an education.
What is something you hope to bring out of the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …?
Not only have I built beautiful friendships but it has sparked a desire to do more about my passions. I want to help out more with the HeforShe movement assisting the right for an education globally. J
