Well, it’s that time of year when the search to find Miss Universe Australia is well underway with finalists being selected across the country.
Early next month at the Sofitel on Collins Melbourne the judging panel have the incredibly hard job of selecting the 2015 Miss Universe Australia.
Today we are chatting with finalist Chanel Stewart from New South Wales who is one of the national finalists who will be competing for the 2015 title of Miss Universe Australia and hoping to follow in the footsteps of Jennifer Hawkins, Rachael Finch, Jesinta Campbell and last years winner Tegan Martin.
First of all the all-important introduction tell us a little about yourself…?
My name is Chanel Stewart I grew up in the beautiful town of Coffs Harbour which is situated in northern New South Wales until moving to Sydney to model. I have been modelling full time for the last 12 months and really enjoy it. In addition to modelling next year I aim to begin my international studies degree at university. I am passionate about my vinyasa yoga practice, pairing my love for children and travel by doing volunteer work and reading biographies.
Chanel Congratulations on making it so far in such a coveted competition! We have to ask how has the overall experience been so far …? And how are you feelings in the lead up to the finals. ..?
I have really loved the experience so far. Not only have I been able to be such a highly regarded competition but I have also met some lovely girls that are now my friends. Leading up to the finals I am really excited to get up on stage and have fun, but there are always a little sprinkle of nerves that I think will kick in the night before the crowning ceremony.
With contestants coming from all over the country and bringing their own individual flare What do you think will set you out from the rest of the finalists competing in the 2015 competition …?
I believe the Miss Universe competition is a combination of being beautiful, intelligent and a strong role model. I feel I have all those qualities and always been a natural born leader with being school captain in both Primary and High school. Being a model I have also learnt how to be strong and hard working, something that I think is essential for being a Miss Universe contestant.
What is something people might find interesting about yourself …?
People might find it interesting to learn that I love reading! From 19th-century English books to modern day literature I love all types of genres! In school I studied the highest English and history level and came 1st in both my classes. Often people see models as unintelligent, but that’s not the case with me!
Speaking of a person’s unique flare or style what would you say is your best style or beauty secret …?
I am a firm believer of keeping it simple so a great pair of jeans is a must. It is all about the cut of the jean and how it shapes your body, and if you get that right you can’t go wrong!
With Fitness becoming more and more a part of a person’s personal style how would you describe your fitness regime and how it relates to your life …?
My fitness regime is seamless to my lifestyle. Growing up in a small beach town I have always loved getting outdoors so going for walks and runs are more of a fun activity rather than a chore.
Who or what inspired you to get involved in the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …? What drew you to such a competition ….?
Miss Universe Australia is such a renowned competition that being a young Australian girl I have always known about the beautiful girls who have won such as Jennifer Hawkins and Jesinta Campbell, so being one of those quintessential Australian beauties is something that drew me to the competition.
Speaking of inspiration who inspires you most …?
I think other people inspire me most. There have been amazing role models in my life as well as strangers that do acts of kindness that always make me want to be a better person myself.
What is something you hope to bring out of the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …?
I have met some great girls that are my competitors however we have been able to look past that and create a friendship. Many of them have given me advice on the pageant life as this is my first one. So walking away from this experience I would be happy to say that I have made 7 new girlfriends.
Now the Quick 5
What is something you find yourself always saying …?
Take advantage of the present and opportunities that are in front of you.
Your Favourite place in the world to wind down and relax …?
My favourite place to relax would be my home town Coffs Harbour. The beaches are quiet and a perfect contrast to my busy life in Sydney at the moment. Most of my family and close friends live there so it will always feel like home and a perfect place to be calm.
What song would you say is your personal anthem or theme song …?
Too many to choose from and changes day to day!
If you could give yourself one piece of advice 5 years ago what would it be …?
To sit back and enjoy the ride! Sometimes life gets a little bit hectic, so its nice to sometimes appreciate the business as well as the calmness.
And Finally five things you can’t live without …?
Peppermint tea, Lip balm, the ocean, google maps and books.
