Well, it’s that time of year when the search to find Miss Universe Australia is well underway with finalists being selected across the country.
Early next month at the Sofitel on Collins Melbourne the judging panel have the incredibly hard job of selecting the 2015 Miss Universe Australia.
Today we are chatting with finalist Holly James from Queensland who is one of the national finalists who will be competing for the 2015 title of Miss Universe Australia and hoping to follow in the footsteps of Jennifer Hawkins, Rachael Finch, Jesinta Campbell and last years winner Tegan Martin.
First of all the all-important introduction tell us a little about yourself…?
I am an active girl from the Gold Coast-
I live by the water and spend most of my spare time outdoors. I love fitness, fashion and food, and also travel! Travelling has both fueled my sense of adventure and opened my eyes to how fortunate I am to be living in Australia.
I work in office administration and am also involved in athletics coaching and modelling.
Holly Congratulations on making it so far in such a coveted competition! We have to ask how has the overall experience been so far …? And how are you feelings in the lead up to the finals. ..? Thankyou, I am really excited to be a part of the competition. The whole experience has been such a whirlwind! I have already met so many wonderful people, and I can’t wait to get to Melbourne to meet the rest of the national finalists. The week leading into the competition will be a great chance to get to know the girls and just enjoy the event! It’s like nothing I’ve ever done before – I am really looking forward it.
With contestants coming from all over the country and bringing their own individual flare
What do you think will set you out from the rest of the finalists competing in the 2015 competition …?
All the contestants for the Miss Universe title are such beautiful girls! I feel that my confidence, outgoing nature and passion for helping people will help me stand out.
What is something people might find interesting about yourself …?
I have been involved in athletics my whole life, training and competing at national level.
I started coaching 5 years ago, and found that I loved the challenge of working with developing athletes and helping them achieve their sporting goals. This has now progressed into a passion for helping the people around me with general fitness and wellbeing.
Speaking of a person’s unique flare or style what would you say is your best style or beauty secret …? Start your beauty regime from inside to out! Eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep – all these things are just as important for your overall appearance as external skin care and makeup.
With Fitness becoming more and more a part of a person’s personal style how would you describe your fitness regime and how it relates to your life …?
Coming from a track and field background, my fitness regime is largely based on sprint training and functional weight training. I also incorporate stretching and yoga, as well as fun activities like stand up paddle boarding and bike riding. Living an active life in general is something I am a big advocate for.
Who or what inspired you to get involved in the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …? What drew you to such a competition ….?
I love the idea of being able to represent my country and becoming a positive role model for young women. Combine this with my passion for health, beauty and fitness and the Miss Universe competition just seemed like the perfect opportunity!
Speaking of inspiration who inspires you most …?
I am a big believer in living a healthy and active lifestyle, and therefore someone who has always inspired me is Lorna Jane Clarkson. Her brand encourages and motivates women to look after their bodies by becoming more active in day to day life. Helping women with health and fitness is something that I see myself doing for the rest of my life.
The Miss Universe Pageant has a long history of associating with charity are there any social causes that are particularly close to your heart that you would like to use the platform of miss universe to advance …?
The work Miss Universe Australia does with charities is wonderful! It is amazing to be a part of an event that represents more than just the beautiful dresses and pretty faces. As I feel very strongly about healthy living, a charity that I would like to support in the future is The Butterfly Foundation. This foundation provides support for Australians suffering from eating disorders. I would love to see more funding and exposure for this foundation, so that help is more readily available for those in need.
What is something you hope to bring out of the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …? New friendships, plenty of photos and a huge smile on my face!
