Well, it’s that time of year when the search to find Miss Universe Australia is well underway with finalists being selected across the country.
Early next month at the Sofitel on Collins Melbourne the judging panel have the incredibly hard job of selecting the 2015 Miss Universe Australia.

Today we are chatting with finalist Lydia Honan from Victoria who is one of the national finalists who will be competing for the 2015 title of Miss Universe Australia and hoping to follow in the footsteps of Jennifer Hawkins, Rachael Finch, Jesinta Campbell and last years winner Tegan Martin.

First of all the all-important introduction tell us a little about yourself…?
Hi there! I have my own small business as a Personal Trainer and I also study Health Science at Deakin University! For fun I love to hang out with my friends and family, doing anything active like hiking, surfing, dancing, I love to move!

Lydia Congratulations on making it so far in such a coveted competition! We have to ask how has the overall experience been so far …?   And how are you feelings in the lead up to the finals. ..? Well thank you! I really did not think I would get through the first round, as this is my first ever pageant, so the whole experience has been such a fantastic, exciting time for me! I still have a lot to learn before the crowning ceremony so I am just trying to focus on being healthy and prepared to do the best I can!

With contestants coming from all over the country and bringing their own individual flare What do you think will set you out from the rest of the finalists  competing in the 2015 competition …?

I think my laid back, Aussie nature will set me apart from the other finalists. I am wanting to represent Australia in the Miss Universe pageant just as much as the next beautiful lady next to me, however I am a very easy going person, I love to laugh and have fun, and I believe just being my real, natural self will set me apart from the other girls.

What is something people might find interesting about yourself …? I have represented Victoria 3 times in Calisthenics, and I am God Mother to a 6 month old beautiful boy!

Speaking of a person’s unique flare or style what would you say is your best style or beauty secret …? My best beauty and style secret is; keep it as simple as possible!

With Fitness becoming more and more a part of a person’s personal style how would you describe your fitness regime and how it relates to your life …?
My fitness regime relates to my life very closely as I am a Personal Trainer. I need to be in good physical shape all year round for myself and the way I feel, but also to represent my business, and also my clients. My regime changes week to week, I like to work out 3-4 times a week and I always mix it up with a lot of different workouts, like skipping, strength training, dancing, cardio, boxing, Pilates and yoga to name a few.

Who or what inspired you to get involved in the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …? What drew you to such a competition ….?

I am at a time in my life where I really want to push myself. The applications for Miss Universe Australia came up online and I saved it in my favourites for a few days. I have been told if something scares you, it is probably a good thing to try. So, I pressed the button not expecting anything to come of it, and here I am, about to compete for the title in 2 weeks!

Speaking of inspiration who inspires you most …?

Definitely my Mum. I could write pages and pages of how she inspires me, but I’ll keep it short and sweet! She’s always worked hard to provide the best for my sister and I, she instilled good values in the both of us, she’s caring, loving, no matter what happens she always has a positive outlook and a funny spin on things, and she saves lives for a living, c’mon!

The Miss Universe Pageant has a long history of associating with charity are there any social causes that are particularly close to your heart that you would like to  use the platform of miss universe to advance …?
There are a few issues very close to my heart. Personally, I would love to have a platform to raise awareness about Depression & Anxiety, and Eating Disorders. To also recognize all the great work done by Beyond Blue and The Butterfly Foundation.

What is something you hope to bring out of the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …? I have already gained so much from this pageant; I have met so many wonderful people and had some amazing experiences. I hope to gain more confidence in myself to go after what I want in life, to be pro active and be a voice for young Australians.
