Miss Universe Australia 2015 Finalist – Tarrah Burns

Well, it’s that time of year when the search to find Miss Universe Australia is well underway with finalists being selected across the country.
Early next month at the Sofitel on Collins Melbourne the judging panel have the incredibly hard job of selecting the 2015 Miss Universe Australia.

Today we are chatting with finalist Tarrah Burns from Victoria who is one of the national finalists who will be competing for the 2015 title of Miss Universe Australia and hoping to follow in the footsteps of Jennifer Hawkins, Rachael Finch, Jesinta Campbell and last years winner Tegan Martin.

First of all the all-important introduction tell us a little about you what you do for work, fun etc..?
Hi, my name is Tarrah. I’m a Melbourne girl representing Victoria in the upcoming Miss Universe Australia competition for 2015. Having recently made the decision to retire from my professional ballet career, I am currently passing on my knowledge as a ballet teacher at Stonnington School of Dance. During my career I was lucky enough to have danced and performed with some of the most prestigious ballet companies around the world. I am also currently studying my Bachelor of Education at Deakin University and I can’t wait to inspire and educate the future generations of Australia. One of the charities that is very close to my heart is the RSPCA. I have an endless love for all animals and believe that every life is valuable and everyone deserves a second chance. I continue to support and help out where I can whilst participating in events to help raise  awareness for many that need our help. Throughout this competition I will aim to be a good role model for the next generations of Australia by being a leader, humble and hard working. I like to live a healthy and active lifestyle and am always interested in trying new things and broadening my horizons. During my ballet career I was lucky enough to have visited and been inspired by many different countries around the world and have developed a love for many different cultures and lifestyles which I hope to incorporate in my life and learn from them. It is a dream of mine to educate the children of the world who are less fortunate and provide them with hope in having a bright, happy and healthy future.

Congratulations on making it so far in such a coveted competition! We have to ask how has the overall experience been so far …?   And how are you feelings in the lead up to the finals. ..?
My journey with Miss Universe Australia has been incredible so far. In such a short amount of time I have learnt and grown so much as a person, and further developed my confidence, public speaking and political knowledge. The support and encouragement I have received from my family and friends has been amazing and I can’t wait to make them proud at the National final. I’m feeling prepared and excited, and I can’t wait to catch up with all the other beautiful contestants for the week leading up to the final. I’m loving every moment.

With contestants coming from all over the country and bringing their own individual flare, ?what do you think will set you out from the rest of the finalists competing in the 2015 competition …?
I feel I can bring maturity and integrity to the role.  I have lived in Paris and New Zealand and travelled the world several times both for work and leisure and have a well rounded respect and appreciation for other cultures. I love talking about Australia and sharing our traditions and our beauty to fellow travellers.  I am open minded and easy going and I’m not afraid to get out of my comfort zone to explore new pleasures.  Travelling forces you to be independent and make friends with other people from different backgrounds and I have experienced this in abundance with all of my travels.  This experience will help me in the world final should I become the new Miss Universe Australia.

??What is something people might find interesting about yourself …?
I spent a good part of my childhood growing up in country South Australia. I have a huge appreciation for the outdoors and nature and am mesmerised the Australian coastline. I developed a love for all animals from a very young age and I’m not afraid to have a go and get my hands dirty.

??Speaking of a person’s unique flare or style what would you say is your best style or beauty secret …?
I might sound cliché but my best beauty secret is to drink plenty of water. As a dancer your water intake is very important in staying hydrated to feel and look your best. If you’re healthy on the inside it reflects on the outside.

With Fitness becoming more and more a part of a person’s personal style how would you describe your fitness regime and how it relates to your life …?
As a professional athlete, health and fitness has always played a huge role in my life. I started dancing when I was just three years old, teaching me the importance of core strength and stability, instilling a discipline like no other sport.  I have been hugely involved in all physical activity from a young age, having a go at everything that came my way including athletics, diving and swimming. I love keeping fit and healthy, it’s a big part of who I am. I try and exercise every day, even if it’s as simple and walking the dog. My favourite workouts at the moment include running and boot camp. I find working out in a group to be highly motivating and fun. I always choose to get involved in fun runs held on the weekends and I just completed the Mother’s Day Classic running 8km, raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness.

??Who or what inspired you to get involved in the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …? What drew you to such a competition ….?
My beautiful sister is a constant inspiration in my life and has motivated me to undertake my own Miss Universe journey. She had such a wonderful experience and as her sister and number one supporter I watched her grow, learn and excel throughout the competition, which has inspired me to challenge myself and chase my own dreams. It is also an excellent opportunity for me to get involved in every way that I can and become a great brand ambassador for Australia.

??Speaking of inspiration who inspires you most …?
Ever since I was a little girl I have always looked up to Prima Ballerina Paloma Herrera. Not only for her finesse and beauty as a dancer but also for her confidence and composure as a women.

The Miss Universe Pageant has a long history of associating with charity are there any social causes that are particularly close to your heart that you would like to  use the platform of miss universe to advance …?
I’ve grown up to believe that every life is valuable.  One of the charities that is really close to my heart is the RSPCA.  I love all animals great and small and believe everyone deserves a second chance.  However just recently I have become a strong advocate for Cure Brain Cancer after hearing Carrie Bickmore’s heartfelt speech on the recent Logies telecast.  She spoke from the heart and it made me sit up and take notice.  The fact that the Miss Universe Australia organisation has chosen this as their charity of choice is the perfect platform for me to raise further awareness for this terrible disease.

What is something you hope to bring out of the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …??? My journey so far is of growth and intrigue.  I am amazed at the generosity of the other contestants and their friendships.  I am always learning new things every day such as dealing with media interviews and meeting new people and making them feel comfortable.  My sense of wonder is ever growing at the good that can come of being Miss Universe Australia, and by sharing with the world our fantastic, multicultural melting pot that is Australia.  I am always doing something new in this competition and stepping out of my comfort zone whilst finding that I am really enjoying this new path and personal growth.

Now the Quick 5

What is something you find yourself always saying …?
Live. Love. Wonder.  Live life to the fullest.  Love the people around you.  Wonder and enjoy what the world has to offer each day.

Your Favourite place in the world to wind down and relax …?
One of my favourite Australian Secrets is a small beach town on the coast of South Australia called Robe. It’s the quaint essential Australian beach with an endless coastline, fine white sand and big waves. It is the perfect place to relax, wind down and let go.

What song would you say is your personal anthem or theme song …?
Shake it off by Taylor Swift.  It’s such an upbeat song and fun to dance to and it’s a good mantra to live by in that if things get hard just “Shake it off”.

? If you could give yourself one piece of advice 5 years ago what would it be …?Reach out, embrace the world and live life to the fullest.

?And Finally five things you cant live without …?
