This is the tale of two hotels and a mistake that seasoned travellers like ourselves shouldn’t make, but here we are.
We recently took off to Melbourne for annual event commitments and left the booking of our accommodation to extremely last minute (during school holidays) so jumped online and booked a budget option within a few minutes walk of the events we would be at all week you know location location location.
So we check-in at our first hotel and everything is going fine until we’re stung with an unexpected fee on check-in of a significant bond, but hey that’s fine just get us upstairs as we’ve got a big day tomorrow.
We then settle in for a few days stay and realise there’s an intermittent heater in 5 degrees Melbourne weather and that the maintenance on the property is less than stellar with broken appliances and light switches, but we persist as not to upset the apple cart.
This is where the trip turned and had us looking to Breakfree for a new place to stay when we raised the issues with management just before our last night as to be helpful; we received no help or concern just the attitude of we’ll get to it once you’ve checked out.
So we woke to feel unloved for our last night in Melbourne, so we decided to pull up stumps and head over to another property and discovered Citadines on Bourke, and this begins the perfect tale of our second hotel.
We book in and ring to see if we can organise an early check-in, about 11 am and the team are delightfully helpful and say they have a room ready and to come on over now, on check-in we’re greeted with a smile and amazingly helpful staff this is just like a breath of fresh air from our last experience.
We are already smiling, and we are head upstairs and opened the door to the room to be greeted by a vibrant, modern room with all the amenities of home its like Apartment living with Hotel Service.
Everything clean, crisp and comfortable it instantly felt like the problems of the last few days had just melted away.
The property also boasted many features lacking at our previous accommodation including the properties fully equipped gym, indoor pool, sauna and outdoor sundeck, all nice to have.
Your also only steps from the best retail therapy in the country in Bourke Street Mall, Emporium Melbourne, Melbourne Central and the QV Shopping precincts all only a short walk or tram stop from your door.
If you’re looking to be entertained in a way only Melbourne offers you can jump on over to the MCG or Etihad and catch a game or maybe a fantastic concert at Rod Lava Arena.
But most importantly you must get out and discover those unique dining experiences and the coffee that this city has to offer all on the doorstep.
So as you can probably tell we can highly recommend the Citadines on Bourke, and to the fantastic team, we would like to thank them for the perfect stay, and we look forward to returning on our next travels.
