Will The Walking Dead: World Beyond Boost Australian Newcomer Hal Cumpston’s Career?

The latest instalment of the Walking Dead universe, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, has given opportunities to a number of fresh-faced newcomers on the acting scene. One of the new cast members is Australian Hal Cumpston, who follows in the footsteps of his other countrymen to have acted in the various zombie-based series including Benedict Samuel and Alycia Debnam-Carey. Both of these actors received plaudits for their performances in The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead respectively. Could Cumpston enjoy a similar rise to fame in AMC’s latest spinoff?

AMC Banking on Viewers’ Insatiable Hunger for Zombie Content

The original Walking Dead series has been on air since 2010, and there have been ten seasons to date. Thanks to its popularity, AMC Networks decided to expand the franchise and emulate Marvel’s cinematic universe concept. This has led to sister shows, Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, as well as some upcoming Rick Grimes films with Andrew Lincoln reprising his role as the series’ original protagonist.

Some may say that AMC is overdoing it with the amount of content it is releasing, but others would argue that there is an insatiable desire for zombie content in the entertainment industry. Indeed, the undead monsters have been ever-present in popular culture over the years.

Aside from various films like Dawn of the Dead, there are plenty of popular games that feature zombies. These include the much-loved Plants vs. Zombies franchise for mobile and console, which has branched out into spinoff games, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 1 & 2, as well as the Plants v. Zombies Heroes card game. The Wild Walker slot game available to play at PartyCasino, one of the sites recommended by Betpal New Zealand, is an up-to-date example of zombies featuring on the rolling reels, where this theme has been popularly utilised for years in the online casino industry. For console players, there is the recent Days Gone from SIE Bend Studio, which is a survival horror. This is the latest in a long list of zombie offerings for consoles, which also famously includes the Resident Evil franchise and The Last of Us.

Cumpston One of Many Newcomers on Show

World Beyond features a young cast of budding actors looking to make it big. They could be in the right place as well, as the Walking Dead universe attracts high viewing figures. Although nowhere near the audiences for the parent show, the new offering did pull in 1.5 million viewers for its pilot episode.

Cumpston was an unknown entity before being signed on to World Beyond, but as lead character Silas Plaskett he has the chance to make his mark. He stars in the show alongside other young stars in the making including Aliyah Royale and Nico Tortorella. While these actors may have more acting credits to their names than Cumpston, they are also yearning to gain greater recognition in their new roles.

Walking Dead Universe has Helped Others to Stardom

The Walking Dead has helped make household names out of a number of stars already, including Lincoln, who is one of the most memorable actors from the series. Some other people to gain mass attention because of their roles include Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, who play Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier, respectively.

Perhaps the most notable success story from the series, though, is the rise of Michonne actress Danai Gurira. She has gone on to star as Okoye in the MCU on the back of her incredible performances in The Walking Dead. Cumpston’s dream would be to follow in her footsteps.
