The television world is mourning the loss of Andre Braugher, the two-time Emmy-winning actor who so endeared audiences as Captain Raymond Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Braugher passed away, after a brief illness. He was 61.
Braugher’s death was confirmed by his publicist, Jennifer Allen, to Variety.
Braugher was best known for his role as Captain Holt on the police procedural comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. He played the stoic and no-nonsense captain from 2013 until 2021. His character’s dry humour and unwavering dedication to duty made him an instant fan favourite.
Braugher’s co-stars on Brooklyn Nine-Nine also took to social media to share their condolences. Terry Crews, who played Captain Holt’s friend and confidant Terry Jeffords, wrote on Instagram, “Can’t believe you’re gone so soon. I’m honoured to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent. This hurts. You left us too soon. You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you. Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship. My deepest condolences to your wife and family in this difficult time. You showed me what a life well lived looks like.
