And The ARIA Goes To...

“2014 has been an amazing year for Australian music and that was certainly evident by the incredible talent that graced the ARIA stage. The collection of tonight’s winners, nominees and performers highlight the world-class homegrown talent that we have here in Australia.  ARIA is proud to be able to present these artists to music fans around Australia and around the world to celebrate their achievements.” Best International Artist ARIA Award recipients for the third consecutive year, One Direction blew the audience away with their hit single ‘Steal My Girl’. Although Best Breakthrough Artist, Iggy Azalea was not at the Awards, the featured vocalist on her worldwide smash hit, ‘Fancy’, Charli XCX was on stage with previous ARIA Award recipient, Illy to accept the award on Azalea’s behalf. Denis Handlin AM, ARIA Chairman and Chairman & CEO of Sony Music Entertainment Australia & New Zealand and President, Asia said: “On behalf of the ARIA Board, I would like to congratulate all the winning artists and nominees at the 2014 ARIA Awards Connected By Telstra. It has also been our honour to welcome Molly Meldrum & Countdown into the ARIA Hall of Fame. This year’s ARIA Awards have been a great success, with our incredibly talented artists demonstrating the profound impact and diversity of Australian music. We would like to thank all of the 2014 ARIA Awards partners –Destination NSW, TEN, Telstra and The Star and for their valued support in making the ARIA Awards such a wonderful event.”   The 2014 ARIA Awards Connected By Telstra kicked off in spectacular style on the Red Carpet Presented By David Jones with Justice Crew performing their hit single, ‘Que Sera’ with the masses of fans delivering a deafening roar of delight for the entire duration of the red carpet parade. Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism and Major Events Troy Grant said: “Congratulations to each of the 2014 ARIA Award winners who have been recognised for their outstanding talent, hard work and achievement at the Australian music industry’s night-of-nights in Sydney this evening. The NSW Government, through our tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, is proud to support the ARIA Awards and ARIA Week 2014 and I am delighted to have today announced our continued investment in these events for the next three years, ensuring they remain in Sydney and further cementing the city’s position as Australia’s live performance capital,” he said. Beloved Australian icon, Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum and the show that introduced us to him, Countdown was inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame by Marcia Hines and John Paul Young. The overwhelming reaction from the crowd when Molly was inducted is a testament to how loved and admired the first non-artist being inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame is by all. ARIA salutes you Molly.
