Well as the sunshine dips over the horizon and summer ends. We’re heading into the colder months, but just before that happens.
We have a few months grace, and it’s the perfect season to explore some fantastic eats and treats South East Queensland has to offer.
It’s the time of year when we start looking for some foods that sympathise with your hard day’s work and gives you a comforting hug and leaves you feeling nourished and pepped up again.
We’ve scoured the South East looking for some amazing food finds and discoveries, Our first stop is the iconic Elephant Rock Cafe, which is located on one of the most iconic stretches of coastline Queensland has to offer.
Elephant Rock Cafe
Elephant Rock Cafe is one of the most iconic places to grab a bite and a tipple on the Gold Coast with sensational views of the coast and excellent service and that local feel.
Owners and brothers Philip and Andrew fell in love with the people, the location and the cafe when they were visiting their parents who lived locally.
And when the venue came up for sale, they just couldn’t let the opportunity pass. They purchased the venue from original owner Greg who had owned the business for 20 years and set about making it their own while investing in what makes it great, they put in upgrades across the venue, the gardens and worked to create fantastic food and bespoke catering for every occasion.
Speaking of occasions the venue is also one of the top function spaces on the coast, with an elegant and formal atmosphere and stunning coastal view with enough space for up to 90 people depending on the event.
So head down to the Cafe anytime they are open seven days for breakfast and lunch and Friday and Saturday they open the doors for dinner, with an amazing menu changing weekly.
Degani Coorparoo
This Sophisticated southside cafe is our next stop on the road and is located in the new Coorparoo Square on Old Cleveland Road.
Bringing you their famous coffee blend and superb breakfasts, it will be sure to make it onto the shortlist for your next brunch spot. They have everything covered and even transform into a licenced restaurant when the sun goes down.
The Degani name is well known around Australia for providing a little slice of coffee culture to many communities, coming from the coffee capital of Australia, they pride themselves on bringing some of that Melbourne heritage to every cafe they operate.
The Chef’s at Degani Coorparoo are also proud of the fact that they make everything fresh and are always searching out influences from all around the world.
They are open every day so why not pop in have something to eat, or even kick off your shoes and have a picnic on the grass for that all-important catchup and maybe continue for a drink and some tapas after-dark before catching a movie.
Elston Surfers Paradise
We’re taking you back a little in time to the era of Jim Cavill and his 25 acre’s of land Elston that in the 1920s was transformed into what we now know as the Sand and Surf capital of Australia Surfers Paradise.
Fast forward to today, and we are taking you inside Elston Bar & Restaurant located on the Soul Boardwalk steps from the sand in Surfers Paradise.
The venue opened in 2014 and has been serving a rustic menu and unique dining experience with an urban eatery twist to thousands and thousands of tourist and locals.
The venue is perfect any time of the day whether you’re hitting the sand in your activewear and want a place to stop for a fresh juice, or stopping in to grab a quick feed before going about your day.
After-dark Elston comes into a league of its own, just like our cities skyline, sit back with a few cocktails and wines and an impressive selection of Tapas in the best location for a beverage or two on the Gold Coast.
TasteLABB Cafe
Time for some tasty and wholesome food from the people at TasteLABB Cafe which is located in Varsity just next to Bond University and they have been serving up some sensational fresh and healthy meals to students and locals for a while now, but they’re fast becoming the next little hotspot tucked away in the suburbs.
TasteLABB is one of those places that is a little out of the way but you start hearing a few whispers, and then a friend suggests popping in and then you arrive, the reason for this buzz is the food of course but also the team’s fantastic approach just making everyone feel like a local.
They specialise in bringing out healthy and fresh food with also a decadent style and some good old fashioned tastes like their free-range rotisserie chickens, also providing a menu for all, including vegan, vegetarian and dairy free or gluten free options.
So pop on down and grab a smashed avo and a coffee, before it becomes the next boom breakfast spot.
Seoul Bistro
The final stop on this food tour is spicy, sweet and magical, trust us keep reading. Seoul Bistro is gaining a reputation for the best Fried Chicken in Brisbane, and with their tasty Korean and Japanese flavours, it’s no wonder why.
They also have an ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT wing buffet which is just what we mean by magical, these rarely uttered words of Unlimited Wings make you feel happy inside… but it doesn’t stop there also included in the buffet is some thin cut fries, garlic bread and lemon iced tea to wash it all down.
