Believe, Belong, Become: Brisbane 2032’s Bold New Mantra

Brisbane 2032 invites the world to believe, belong, and become. Unpack the symbolism behind the Games’ new vision and its promise of a lasting legacy

Brisbane 2032 has officially found its voice. In a major milestone for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee, the official Games Vision has been released, offering a roadmap that will guide the delivery of the event over the next decade. The verdict is a succinct, three-word mantra: “Believe. Belong. Become.”.

This vision wasn’t crafted in a boardroom vacuum. It represents the culmination of the organisation’s largest consultation process to date, drawing on the input of more than 6,000 Australians,. Notably, almost 3,000 of those voices came from right across Queensland, ensuring the host state’s specific energy is woven into the fabric of the Games.

Andrew Liveris, President of Brisbane 2032, describes the new vision as a “north star” intended to navigate the Games toward 2032 and into the legacy era that follows. For Liveris, the symbolism is crucial. He notes that when Brisbane takes its place on the world stage, local “belief, grit and spirit will shine through,” while a shared sense of belonging is celebrated. The ultimate goal is transformation: to use the “gift of the Games” to rise and “become an even greater city, state and nation to visit, invest in and be part of”.

The launch event itself reflected this statewide buy-in, with more than a dozen councils tuning in to watch the unveiling—a nod to the widespread benefits the Games are expected to bring to communities far beyond the capital.

International observers are already responding to the local energy. Mikaela Cojuangco Jaworski, Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission, described the vision as bold, noting that it perfectly reflects the “warmth and dynamism of Queenslanders” as they prepare to welcome the world. She also commended the team for running such an “impressive and wide-reaching consultation”.

With the vision now set, Brisbane 2032 has moved from planning to purpose, inviting the world to believe in the journey, belong to the experience, and become part of the legacy.

Believe. Belong. Become. Brisbane 2032.
