Today we’re chatting with Bianca Black from Queensland, one of 30 remarkable women vying for the Miss Universe Australia 2025 crown, to be decided on August 15 at Crown Perth’s Grand Ballroom.
So, why don’t you start by telling us a bit about yourself?
My name is Bianca Black, but you can call me B. I’m a model, actress and co-host of Liv and Let B, a podcast created with one of my best friends to navigate the chaos of our late 20s. Born and raised on the beautiful Gold Coast, I’m obsessed with my dogs, my family and my friends.
What inspired you to take the leap and enter Miss Universe Australia?
Entering Miss Universe Australia felt like a natural next step in the journey I’m on. It aligns so closely with who I am and what I’m striving toward, from personal growth to using my voice with purpose.
As part of the program, you had the amazing opportunity to travel to Vietnam, and stay at the beautiful Hoiana Resort. How was that experience for you?
Vietnam and our stay at Hoiana Resort was an unforgettable experience. From start to finish, I made a conscious effort to be fully present, soaking in every moment and opportunity that came our way. My intention was to give everything my all. I walked away feeling inspired, grateful and even more grounded in my why for this journey.
What would you say was the highlight of the trip?
While it’s hard to pinpoint just one standout, visiting Hearing and Beyond School in Vietnam, a school Miss Universe Australia has aligned with and supported for years, was deeply impactful. Interacting with the children was a powerful reminder of the bigger purpose behind this journey.
As part of the trip, you also took part in your official swimwear shoot with Unnecessary the Label. How was that experience for you?
The swimwear shoot with Unnecessary the Label was such an effortless and seamless experience. The team created the most chill, fun environment so I could show up in the best way. Seeing the photos recently was a real highlight — everyone looked incredible.
Your next question comes from our current Miss Universe Australia, Zoe Creed. If your younger self could see you today, not just on this stage but as a person, what do you think she’d be most proud of and why?
This one hits deep. Throughout this journey, and to be honest, my day-to-day life, I always have her (younger B) with me. She’s been quite the motivator, reminding me to keep showing up for something bigger than myself. She would be proud that I’ve moved through this experience with class, staying true to who I am, standing strong in my values and that I’ve found my purpose.
With everyone bringing their own unique flair to the program, what would you say sets you apart from the other contestants?
What sets me apart is a deep sense of alignment and self-assurance. When you’re truly connected to who you are, your values, your purpose, your why, it naturally shapes the way you carry yourself.
It’s not about being the loudest in the room, but about showing up with clarity, intention and conviction.
What’s something about you that people might find surprising or interesting?
Despite loving all things glam and dressing up, I’m a total tomboy at heart. I grew up with my older brother, so I’ve always been drawn to high-adrenaline, daredevil activities like footy, bungee jumping and skydiving. I love the contrast of being able to embrace both sides of myself.
I’m also Greek, so the fiery passion runs deep.
If you could work on any dream project, with no limits on time or resources, what would it be?
My dream project would be something ongoing and deeply purposeful, a space where I could create real impact. I imagine a series of workshops or community events designed to help people build confidence and self-worth, incorporating our Miss Universe Australia charities and the networks I have built. I’m passionate about helping others feel seen and heard.
I’m also deeply drawn to working with animals, so ideally, a project that brings together all those elements.
We have a few quick questions to wrap up the interview:
What’s a song that never fails to lift your mood?
Dreams by Fleetwood Mac.
What does confidence mean to you?
To me, confidence is a deep, unshakable knowing. It’s trust in yourself, alignment with your values and the ability to back your decisions wholeheartedly. It’s not just about how you present on the outside; it’s the inner work, the resilience and the growth that comes from every challenge you’ve overcome.
If you had to swap lives with someone for a day, who would it be and why?
I’m content in my own life, but if I had to pick, maybe David Attenborough. Just for the chance to narrate my day in his iconic voice and hang out with all the animals in the wild. Educational and adorable. Iconic.
What’s one thing you always have in your handbag (besides your phone)?
A hairbrush and lip balm.
Window or aisle seat on a flight?
Aisle seat. Don’t @ me.
