Burleigh Heads Walking Track Reopens After Fire

The Oceanview track at Burleigh Heads has reopened. Read about safety assessments and ongoing investigations into the bushfire.

The popular walking track in Burleigh Heads National Park has reopened to the public after being closed for over a week due to a suspicious bushfire.

The Oceanview track was shut down by park rangers following a blaze that broke out last Tuesday night, burning through more than a hectare of vegetation on the headland. The fire prompted safety concerns, particularly regarding the potential instability of rocks and boulders along the trail.

Rangers conducted multiple safety assessments over several days, ultimately deeming the track safe for public use late Thursday. Their decision comes after thorough inspections ensured the trail posed little risks to walkers.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, with authorities treating the incident as suspicious. Police are still searching for a suspected arsonist believed to be linked to the blaze. A widely circulated social media video featuring a young male holding a burning branch has been dismissed by investigators as unrelated to the fire.
