Filming Wraps on Australian Indie Drama The Curator

Filming has officially wrapped on The Curator, an indie drama that delves into the delicate interplay of joy and grief, set against the stunning backdrop of Brisbane and its surrounds. The production, led by Blue Lagoon Pictures, is shaping up to be a bold new entry into Australia’s indie film scene.

At the heart of The Curator is a powerful collaboration between rising and established talent. The film stars James Carson, an emerging actor from Byron Bay, alongside Liv Bosshard, known for her roles in Steps and Swinging Safari. Bosshard not only co-leads the film but also penned the script and directed the project.

“There really is no place like Australia,” Bosshard shared, reflecting on her return from working abroad in Vancouver and New York. “I’m thrilled to bring a unique Aussie story to life with such an incredible cast and crew.”

The film’s visual storytelling is in the capable hands of Director of Photography Beau Selwood, whose impressive credits include ElvisMortal KombatGodzilla Vs Kong, and Aquaman. Selwood described the shoot as a rewarding challenge:
“What we pulled off with this film was pretty remarkable, we had a tonne of tricky scenes and shots.”

Joining the visual team was underwater DOP Jay Button and Creative Director Jellan Merlant of Clash Studio, whose influence helped shape the film’s distinct 90s aesthetic, and Producer Bella De Paoli rounds out a stellar team of talent.

The cast also boasts respected acting coach Rob Horton (Take My HandThe Last Video Store), Jarrod Gildea (Chasing LemonsLucky Devil), David Tracy (IrreverentHeart of The Man), and Chelsea Glaw, who previously starred in Swinging Safari with Jacob Elordi.

Filming took place across several iconic Queensland locations, including Beechmont, The Spit, Mount Tamborine, and Brisbane’s own Lethbridge Gallery, providing a visually rich canvas for the film’s emotional narrative.

With its unique blend of heartfelt storytelling, a strong visual identity, and a passionate cast and crew,The Curator positions itself as a standout contender on the indie circuit. It’s a bold, female-led production that celebrates homegrown talent and creative voices pushing Australian cinema forward.
