After being closed since March this year following damage from ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, Hurricane’s Grill & Bar Surfers Paradise has officially reopened — and it’s making waves once again on the Gold Coast dining scene. Since its original launch in 2013, the beachfront institution has held a reputation as a go-to for flame-grilled feasts and ocean views. Now, with an elegant redesign and an elevated menu, the venue is turning heads for all the right reasons.
Perched directly opposite the sands of Surfers Paradise Beach, the iconic 300-seater restaurant and bar has long been a favourite among locals and visitors alike. Now, thanks to a top-to-toe renovation by award-winning interior design firm Luchetti Krelle, Hurricane’s Surfers Paradise has undergone a transformation that balances coastal sophistication with relaxed, welcoming charm.
From the moment guests step inside, it’s clear that the brief was all about bringing the outside in. The previously enclosed wraparound windows have been fully reimagined to open out completely, merging the interior dining space with the vibrant beachside atmosphere. Whether it’s a sunny lunch with a sea breeze or a balmy evening by the waves, the new alfresco-inspired layout amplifies the restaurant’s position as one of the Gold Coast’s prime beachfront dining spots.
Warm, locally-crafted wooden finishes and hand-crafted tiles offer texture and tactility throughout the venue, while the soft coastal palette brings a breezy sense of calm to the space. Adding to the experience is a newly introduced private dining room, designed to accommodate up to 40 guests — ideal for special occasions, corporate events or long-table lunches that call for something a little more intimate.
An Elevated Menu Worth the Wait
To match the fresh interiors, the culinary offering has also been thoughtfully revitalised. While signature items like flame-grilled ribs, stacked burgers and vibrant salads remain proudly on the menu, the new additions show a clear step towards refined, contemporary dining.
One standout development is the introduction of a raw bar, featuring locally sourced seafood — a fitting nod to the restaurant’s coastal location. From the sea to the land, the new dry-aged steak program adds another layer of depth, with premium Australian cuts on offer including a 1.7kg tomahawk and a 1kg T-bone, both with nothing below MS8 for marbling quality.
Appetisers also take on a Mediterranean tilt, with new starters like fried focaccia and burrata bringing a fresh and flavourful start to the meal. It’s a considered and creative update that offers more variety while maintaining the bold, hearty dishes that Hurricane’s loyal diners have long embraced.

The beverage menu has undergone its own refresh, with plenty of playful and premium offerings now available. Alongside a curated list of local wines, tap beers and spirits, guests can indulge in tropical cocktails, boozy slushies, and dessert-inspired concoctions that add a splash of fun to the dining experience.
For those steering clear of alcohol, the team has also introduced a dozen mocktails, making sure every guest — from designated drivers to family groups — feels right at home with something special in their glass.
While the look and taste of Hurricane’s Surfers Paradise may have evolved, the teams commitment to warm, attentive service remains unchanged. Leading the team is Restaurant Manager Kimberley Dutheil, who has overseen operations since 2022. Working closely with James Broomhall, the Event and Venue Operations Manager since 2020, the duo brings consistency and a passion for hospitality that has anchored the restaurant through both its closure and its return.
The reopening marks a new chapter not just for the Surfers Paradise venue, but also for the broader Hurricane’s collection. The Surfers location is one of five Hurricane’s restaurants across the east coast, under the direction of respected Sydney restaurateur Tony Texeira, whose portfolio also includes flagship venues in Bondi Beach, Cronulla Beach, Narellan, and Top Ryde.
Whether you’re a local looking to rediscover an old favourite or a visitor seeking an unbeatable location to dine beachside, the new-look Hurricane’s offers something for every occasion. With its fresh design, expanded offerings and signature hospitality, the venue invites guests to linger a little longer, enjoy the view, and reconnect over food that satisfies.
