Freestone to fend off defending champ in Chiko series this weekend

th and final event of the four-event series. Coolangatta’s Jack Freestone is currently leading the 2014 QCC ratings after a recent win at the Chiko Sunshine Coast Pro and will be looking to capitalize on his intimate knowledge of right-hand point breaks to take out the series and win himself a wildcard into the 2014 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Quiksilver Pro Trials. Freestone will have his work cut out for him, with 2013 QCC champion Nick Vasicek (Coolangatta, QLD) and local Burleigh surfer and Chiko Alley Classic Champion, Thomas Woods nipping at his heels in the 2014 ratings. The top two surfers of the series will receive a wildcard into the ASP Quiksilver Pro Trials in 2015 and will also be selected to represent Queensland in the forthcoming Open Men’s Australian Titles. Burleigh Heads will provide a natural amphitheater that has become iconic to the sport of surfing since the Stubbies surfing event, held on the headland in the 1970s. In addition to critical QCC ratings points, competitors will also be vying for the $1000 Bruce Lynton “Boost” prize, which will be awarded to the surfer to nail the most progressive and critical aerial maneuver of the event. The Chiko Queensland Championship Circuit is the premier State Qualification series for Open Men and is unique to Queensland. The Chiko Burleigh Pro is proudly supported by: Chiko, HIF, Australian Skin Cancer Clinics, Coastalwatch Plus, Surfing Life Magazine, World Surfaris, Gold Coast City Council, Bruce Lynton Land Rover and Surfing Queensland.]]>
