A wave of football fever is sweeping through the Gold Coast as locals prepare for a massive World Cup semi-final showdown between the Matildas and England’s Lionesses. Eager fans will flock to Surfers Paradise Tonight where the city is hosting a live viewing party on the foreshore.
Mayor Tom Tate confirmed that three large screens will be set up at the end of Cavill Mall in front of the Surfers Paradise sign to broadcast the big match “We want to give diehard fans a chance to experience the action with their fellow Aussies and English expats alike,” Tate said. He believes the outdoor venue will allow supporters to truly immerse themselves in the atmosphere.
While traffic measures are already in place for the weekend’s Airshow, the Mayor encourages people to walk, cycle or take public transport if possible. For those who must drive, parking options abound including public lots, on-street parking, and private hotel facilities.
Tate remains optimistic about Australia’s chances. “With pleasant weather expected, I’m predicting a 2-1 victory for the Matildas! They are sure to make our city proud.” The electric atmosphere will be further enhanced by the popular Surfers Paradise Markets taking place that evening.
The live site opens at 5PM so fans can settle in ahead of the 8PM kick-off. Clad in green and gold, crowds are likely to erupt in cheers of “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie” as our Matildas strive to keep their World Cup dream alive. Bars and restaurants are also preparing for an influx of excited football supporters.
It promises to be an evening that brings the community together and provides a welcome morale boost. As Tate said, “We want fans to really make some noise and get behind the Matildas. This is history in the making!”
