HOTA, Home of the Arts, is calling on Gold Coast locals to contribute to a groundbreaking large-scale art installation set to debut at WONDER 2025. The final artwork, expected to be the most ambitious ever showcased at the HOTA Precinct, will feature thousands of personalised ribbons, each inscribed with messages from the community.
This unique installation, named Sky Ribbons, aims to reflect the heart and soul of the Gold Coast, weaving together personal expressions of gratitude into a visually striking display. The ribbons will be suspended across the HOTA Outdoor Stage and up to the HOTA Gallery, creating a breathtaking spectacle during WONDER 2025.
Community Involvement Begins in February
From 13 February to 2 March 2025, Gold Coasters will have the opportunity to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime project by contributing their own messages of gratitude on one of 10,000 ribbons.
Pop-up collection sites will be set up across the Gold Coast, spanning locations from Coomera to Tugun, including shopping centres, schools, hospitals, Wesley Mission Youth Hubs, and Experience Gold Coast’s Student Hub. These locations ensure that as many locals as possible can be part of this monumental creative endeavour.
Participants will respond to the statement:
“I’m grateful to call the Gold Coast home because…”
Each ribbon will carry an individual’s personal reflection, forming a collective tribute to the city’s vibrant community.
A Visual Celebration of Connection
Once all messages are gathered, the Sky Ribbons will be carefully incorporated into the final installation, taking to the sky as a symbol of unity and shared experiences.
Yarmila Alfonzetti, Head of Arts and Culture at Experience Gold Coast, emphasised the project’s significance:
“This project is more than just an artwork; it’s a celebration of community and connection. This is a chance for Gold Coasters to leave their mark and be part of something truly phenomenal — a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see your words soar high in the sky as part of a unique and thrilling art installation unlike anything our city has seen.”
Get Involved
Gold Coast locals are encouraged to take part in this extraordinary event and contribute their message to the Sky Ribbonsproject.
