The Gold Coast community is invited to have their say in shaping what’s set to be the city’s largest open space – Greenheart. As Stage 1 advances, the City turns to residents for their input in developing the remaining sections of what promises to be the foremost of the City’s parklands.

Mayor Tom Tate emphasised the importance of community involvement, stating, “Greenheart will be our city’s largest open space destination for all ages and abilities, so make sure you take the chance to have your say.”

With an impressive 257 hectares of expansive parklands planned for Merrimac and Robina’s suburbs, Greenheart will be roughly six times the size of Broadwater Parklands. The master plan is designed to offer an immersive mixed-used parkland, promoting an active and healthy lifestyle. It aims to connect the community through a variety of sporting, recreational, and cultural experiences.

Mayor Tate further commented on the necessity of the project, stating, “The project is a direct response to our city’s significant growth and is vital for us to continue to offer high quality parks, facilities, and environmental outcomes for generations to come.”

The Greenheart master plan includes three primary precincts and five secondary precincts, providing an array of facilities. These include sports fields, a live event quarter, a Discovery Centre, walking trails, and improved natural habitats that will establish an essential wildlife corridor.

Importantly, the master plan includes a sports precinct with 11 sporting fields, two ovals, six multi-purpose hard courts, amenities and change rooms. It also plans an event quarter capable of hosting up to 50,000 people for festivals, community events, and markets, along with food and beverage outlets, including a rooftop restaurant and indoor function facilities.

The Greenheart project also intends to enhance the local environment, with plans for habitat areas that include renewed wetlands, Mudgeeraba Creek and a new Wildlife corridor.

Residents are encouraged to complete a quick five-minute survey by July 1, 2024. Participants stand a chance to win one of five $500 gift vouchers. You can complete the survey via the GC Have Your Say website.
