Hear the new 650 HP Volvo Polestar Racing V8 engine

With just three weeks left until the season start of the 2014 V8 Supercars, Volvo Polestar Racing reveal the engine sound of the new 650 HP V8 racing engine.  ”We are looking forward to the coming season and we are delighted to give our fans and partners a first taste of what the engine will sound like,” said Mattias Evensson, head of engine development at Polestar. Volvo are back on the Australian racing scene this year in V8 Supercars with two Volvo S60 cars for drivers Robert Dahlgren and Scott McLaughlin in team Volvo Polestar Racing. The Volvo B8444S engine features a unique setup with a 60 degree aluminum cylinder block. The setup does not only provide a unique engine sound but also a strong base for a racing engine. ”Just as for our road car engines, our main objective is drivability or ”power when you need it” as our racing drivers say. The challenges are many to get an optimal combination of power, reliability, fuel efficiency and drivability. There are no secrets to it though, it is all about hard work and designing it right. The Volvo engines are always very good to work with from the start and this one is certainly no exception,” said Evensson. The first official outing of the new cars will be at the official V8 Supercars test day at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 15th. The first race weekend of 2014 takes place in Adelaide with the Clipsal 500 on March 1-2.
