It attracts the biggest names in surfing and skateboarding, so we’re pulling together some of the biggest acts in Australian music to make sure that both fans at the event and audiences around the country enjoy the shows.” Inspired by the US Open of Surfing held in Huntington Beach, California, the Hurley Australian Open of Surfing returns to Manly and again boasts the top-rated 6-star men’s and women’s ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) World Qualifying Tour surf contests, men’s and women’s world junior star-events, and a world-class line-up of skateboarding talent. Details of curated installations featuring work of renowned local and international artists will be unveiled by event sponsor, Hurley in coming weeks. The return of the event was first announced in July 2013 when event partners Hurley, Nike SB, the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, with the support of Manly Council, officially launched the Hurley Australian Open of Surfing to Manly Beach. NSW Treasurer and Member for Manly, Mike Baird, said: “The NSW Government is proud to be a partner in bringing this global event, the Australian Open of Surfing presented by Hurley and IMG, back to Manly for the next two years. “It was always a dream to bring a world surfing title back to Manly – the birthplace of Australian surfing – and last year’s event was a success for locals, visitors and audiences across the world. “This event brings the best of surf, skate and music to our city, embracing youth culture and promoting the unique energy of Manly’s outdoor lifestyle.” Owned and produced by IMG Australia, the Hurley Australian Open of Surfing at Manly Beach is a global youth and sporting event which next year is expected to attract an audience of in excess of 175,000 people.
