Gold Coast, Queensland, Monday 3nd June, 2013: This Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend (June 8-10) will see Surfing Queensland expand the range of paddleboard and stand-up-paddleboard (SUP) opportunities available to the State’s best exponents of the rapidly expanding surfing and racing discipline. The three-day Surfing Queensland Immerse SUP & Paddle Festival will provide the exclusive qualification pathway for Queensland athletes aiming to compete at the 2013 Australian SUP Titles, which will also take place on the Gold Coast later this year, and subsequently the 2014 International Surfing Association (ISA) Paddleboard and SUP World Championships. This weekend’s Immerse SUP & Paddle Festival will run from June 8-10 and will include the Surfing Queensland’s Open Ocean Paddleboard Race, Queensland’s SUP State Surfing Titles and Queensland’s SUP Technical Sprint Racing Titles. The Pathway: 1. 2013 Surfing Queensland Immerse SUP & Paddle Festival 2. 2013 Australian SUP Titles 3. 2014 International Surfing Association Paddleboard & SUP World Championships Opening the Immerse SUP & Paddle Festival this Saturday morning will be Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games and Member for Currumbin Jann Stuckey. Minister Stuckey will open proceedings prior to the beginning of the festival’s first event, the Open Ocean Marathon. The Immerse SUP & Paddle Festival’s Open Ocean Marathon is an exciting paddle race from Snapper Rocks to Currumbin Creek. The event caters for both men and women across a variety of ages, divisions and craft including paddleboard, stand-up-paddleboard, ocean ski and outrigger canoe. Competitors must check in at beach marshal strictly between 8am-9am for a 10am race start. The Immerse SUP and Paddle Festival 2013 is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland as part of a growing calendar of sporting, cultural and regional events across the State.
