The Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle

Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle, will make its NSW debut this upcoming weekend when the northern NSW qualifying event lands in the idyllic Forster region. The event will see some of NSW’s finest boardriding clubs, north of Sydney, battle it out in an attempt to qualify for the National Final, which will take place on Australia Day at Cronulla. Former ASP World Championship Tour surfer and Saltwater Boardriders Club member Ben Dunn is excited to be pulling on a rashie and representing his club in the event. “It feels great to be representing my club and heading down to Forster as a team. It’s always a great bonding experience to get us all together,” said Dunn. “When I was on tour and travelling for eight or so years, I unfortunately didn’t get to do boardriders as much as I would’ve liked and 2013 has been my first year back. It’s been a great year and it’s been awesome to see the club getting stronger.” Each club team of seven will include two juniors (1 male and 1 female), four Open age surfers (3 male and 1 female) and one over 35 surfer (male or female). The event will also see the clubs battle it out in Pairs competition, five-person Teams competition and a Skins competition. The Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle will join the Be the Influence NSW Surfmasters as the premier surfing events in the Great Lakes region. “This event is a fantastic initiative which brings local boardriding clubs together and we are proud to host the inaugural event in Forster,” Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead said. “It provides a great opportunity to not only showcase Forster’s hub of Boomerang Beach but the spectacular coast line of the Great Lakes region, with Tuncurry Breakwall, Hayden’s Beach, Bulls Paddock, Elizabeth Beach, Blueys Beach and Seal Rocks as back up locations.” Minster for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris added: “The Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle is a great example of how the NSW Government works hard to ensure major events remain on the regional NSW Events Calendar.” “The Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle, in Forster will not only benefit businesses, tourism and the local community but it provides a great opportunity for those visiting the area to explore all that the Great Lakes has to offer.” The Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle also includes a Monster Raffle giveaway with one lucky ticket holder to drive away in a new Toyota RAV4. Other prizes include a Billabong pack valued at more than $1500 and a Nikon 1 AW1 camera valued at up to $1000. The Monster Raffle is open to all Surfing Australia affiliated boardrider clubs with proceeds returning to the boardriders club community. In a further incentive to the clubs that make the National Final, the four junior female surfers from the four highest placed clubs will be invited to be part of the Surfing Australia documentary Wildcard. Wildcard is a one hour documentary following the four female surfers as they are given the chance of a lifetime to win a wildcard spot into the Open division at the Australian Open of Surfing at Manly in February, 2014. The four will be invited to the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre (HPC) for a week-long selection camp to see who will win the wildcard. The Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle is proudly supported by Be the Influence – Tackling Binge Drinking, Billabong, Toyota, Nikon, Surfing Australia, Surfing NSW, Destination NSW, the Association of Suring Professionals, Coastalwatch and Surfing World.
