Inside Harbour Town's $8 Million Western Mall Upgrade

Harbour Town Premium Outlets on the Gold Coast is investing $8 million to upgrade its western mall precinct ahead of Christmas.

Harbour Town Premium Outlets is getting a major facelift. The popular shopping destination has announced an $8 million transformation of its western mall precinct, marking a massive investment in customer experience just in time for the busy Christmas trading period.

The project aims to deliver a greener and more comfortable open-air shopping environment. It will refresh the area stretching from the Tourism Lounge all the way through to Kathmandu, as well as the west-to-east crossover mall leading towards Polo Ralph Lauren. Shoppers can expect upgraded ground surfaces, fresh lighting, new seating areas, and lush landscaping complete with water features. Families will also be happy to hear about a brand new custom-built playground, which was designed after consulting with customers to find out exactly what they want from the space. There is even a potential location set aside for a new food and beverage kiosk.

Growing with the Northern Gold Coast

The northern Gold Coast corridor is gearing up for significant residential growth, with developments like Harbour Shores on the horizon. Add in the recent Light Rail announcement, and it makes sense that Harbour Town is preparing for an influx of visitors.

Harbour Town Centre Manager, Greg Day, explained that the investment reflects the centre’s long-term commitment to creating a destination that meets the needs of a growing region.

“Harbour Town is one of the Gold Coast’s most loved retail destinations, with over ten million people visiting each year, and as that visitation continues to grow, it is important that our centre experience continues to evolve with it,” Mr Day said.

He noted that the upgrades will help bring the western mall in line with newer areas of the centre.

“The recent Light Rail announcement is a major step in improving connectivity across the northern Gold Coast, and this investment will help ensure Harbour Town continues to offer a high-quality and welcoming experience as the precinct evolves,” Mr Day said.

“By working with leading design partners and listening to our customers, we are creating spaces that are not only more attractive, but more useful, comfortable and enjoyable for the people who visit Harbour Town every day.”

What Shoppers Need to Know

The project is a collaboration with award-winning architects and builders, including RPS Consulting, Crest Project Management, and Buchan. Stage 1 has already commenced this week.

To keep disruption to a minimum, the work will be delivered in stages, with construction programmed outside of centre trading hours wherever possible. All retailers will remain open and accessible while the works are underway.

“We are confident this project will bring the western mall precinct to life and create a more comfortable and attractive environment for both customers and retailers,” Mr Day said. “We appreciate the patience and support of our retailers and customers while works are underway, and we look forward to unveiling a refreshed precinct ahead of the busy Christmas trading period.”
