Well today we are sitting down to chat with Silka one of the finalists of the face of fashion week who is in the mix with Ten others to be appointed the face of the QT Fashion Week and Awards 2014 held in April.

Starting off with the basics who what and where inspires you most..?

My mother inspires me! Not only can she speak EIGHT languages, but she has also overcome a life-threatening disease and created a rewarding career and loving family for herself. Her bright smile, positive attitude and chic, classic style are traits I strive to emulate!
I also find a lot of inspiration in travelling. As a child, I travelled a lot with my family and learnt from an early age to appreciate the different cultures our wonderful world has to offer. Travelling opens your eyes (and your heart) to what is going on in different corners of the globe and you can find inspiration in just about anything – from landmarks and monuments to the various fashion trends and lifestyles.
If you had to describe yourself to someone in a few short words what would you say …?
Unique, bubbly, adventurous, open-hearted!
Where would you say you find your motivation …?
I believe that you are your own motivation. I wake up everyday with a goal in mind, and I work to achieve it. I am inspired by the success of others, but I know that only I am responsible for what I choose to do with this life I have been blessed with. Anything is possible when you put your all into it!
What would you say fashion means to you…?
To me, fashion is far beyond just the clothes on your back – it’s a way to express, empower and inspire yourself. I love fashion and appreciate it as a form of art – just look at some of the work that goes into the world’s finest haute couture pieces !!!
When did you first get started in modelling and what made you get into the industry …?
I have always loved fashion but never thought I could be a model. After a low period in my life, I embraced a healthy lifestyle, which resulted in a new and improved look for me and my friends and family encouraged me to give modelling a shot. I’m very thankful for all their support, because it’s led to some of the best experiences of my life so far!
What would you say has been a career highlight so far..?
Without a doubt, it was the experience I had at the 2013 Miss Universe Australia pageant. I made a lot of great friends and met many inspiring mentors. Although I didn’t win, I did make it into the Top Ten (the only Queensland girl to do so!) and I genuinely had the time of my life. I also recently shot the Peeptoe Shoes advertising campaign, which was so much fun – I mean, what girl doesn’t love shoes ??!?
As the Gold Coast is pretty different market how would you describe Gold Coast Fashion …?  What makes it different in your eyes …?
Our warm Gold Coast climate means that whilst we don’t get to show off our boots and furs (faux, of course!), we do get to wear beautiful, lightweight garments and resort wear all year round. I love seeing a woman dressed in a gorgeous silk dress, accessorised with great shoes, jewellery and sunglasses in the middle of winter. You definitely wouldn’t see that in Sydney or Melbourne!
What do you hope to come from your experience in the Face of Fashion week Competition…?
Of course, the ultimate goal is to win. But as with everything else I do in life, I hope that this experience will enrich me in some way – whether it be with the new friends I make or future mentors I meet, I am sure that I will come out the other side of this competition with something that will change
Now as a final question what makes you stand out from the other finalists of Face of Fashion Week
We’re all different and unique in our own ways, but I believe that my warm personality and positive attitude make me memorable! My tertiary education and real life experience have helped shape who I am today and I love the person I am becoming. Once upon a time, I would look at myself in the mirror and wish my head was a different shape and that my eyes weren’t so big, but now that I have embraced my inner self, I actually kind of love my ‘alienesque’ features because it’s all part of the uniqueness that makes me, me!
