Today we’re chatting with Kai Hoare from Queensland, one of 30 remarkable women vying for the Miss Universe Australia 2025 crown, to be decided on August 15 at Crown Perth’s Grand Ballroom.
So, why don’t you start by telling us a bit about yourself?
I am 20 years old from sunny Queensland, Australia. I have always been driven by curiosity and creativity. In saying this, I am a model and content creator and absolutely love what I do and wouldn’t change it for the world. I am passionate about growth, both personally and professionally, and love surrounding myself with people and experiences that challenge me in all aspects of life. Outside of work, I enjoy being at the beach, spending time with family and friends and staying active!
What inspired you to take the leap and enter Miss Universe Australia?
I have always been a very driven and passionate person, whether that is in terms of modelling work, social media or with how I desire my life to be. I took the leap to enter this amazing program to push myself out of my comfort zone, meet new people and grow as a young woman. Whatever the outcome is, my ultimate goal was to become a better individual for myself, which I can proudly say I have accomplished.
As part of the program, you had the amazing opportunity to travel to Vietnam and stay at the beautiful Hoiana Resort. How was that experience for you?
It was truly one, if not the best, experience I have been on. I am so grateful to have been selected for this incredible trip. From the picture-perfect Hoiana Resort, visiting Hearing and Beyond, one of our sponsors we are proudly partnered with, and meeting 29 other like-minded women who all share the same values, it was truly an unforgettable experience.
What would you say was the highlight of the trip?
Although there are so many highlights from the incredible week spent in Vietnam, I would have to say the visit to the charity Hearing and Beyond. Getting to physically see what and who we are fundraising for through ToyBox Australia is truly something inspiring. It brought all of the girls and I to tears. It was the most heartwarming feeling seeing these children so happy and grateful for all that we do for their charity.
As part of the trip, you also took part in your official swimwear shoot with Unnecessary the Label. How was that experience for you?
I absolutely loved taking part in the official swimwear shoot for Unnecessary the Label. As a model, particularly focusing on swimwear here in Queensland, I was very much in my element. I love being in front of the camera and having a team to work with the whole time. Hair, makeup and styling were so incredible!
Your next question comes from our current Miss Universe Australia, Zoe Creed. If your younger self could see you today, not just on this stage but as a person, what do you think she’d be most proud of, and why?
My younger self would be shocked! I have always dreamt of the life I am living — modelling, creating content, travelling and experiencing the freedom of life. She would be so proud of everything I’ve achieved, not only with my career, but as an individual — my mindset, the relationships I hold close and how driven I am.
With everyone bringing their own unique flair to the program, what would you say sets you apart from the other contestants?
Everyone is different, and that is the beauty of this program. I have such a drive for what I want to achieve in life, knowing I will get there with work, time and commitment. I have a great attention to detail; everything I do, I do it with my all, 110%. I push myself out of my comfort zone. When I was in high school, I was a very introverted individual. Leaving school made me realise that if I was to be placed into the career and industry I want to be in, I needed to speak well, push myself and become confident in myself.
What’s something about you that people might find surprising or interesting?
Something that not a lot of people know about me is that I did gymnastics my whole childhood, competing at a state level for a number of years. This definitely shaped me as an individual, and I have such a love and respect for the sport.
If you could work on any dream project, with no limits on time or resources, what would it be?
A big dream of mine is to open a fashion label. I have such a creative mindset and passion for all things styling, fashion-focused, unique ideas and business. I would love to complete a fashion and styling course. I want to create pieces I’ve never seen before and build a community within the business — not just customers — making women and men feel confident and stylish in the pieces I have personally created.
We have a few quick questions to wrap up the interview:
What’s a song that never fails to lift your mood?
Any song from Fred Again! He is the ultimate hype artist for any occasion!
What does confidence mean to you?
Not letting anyone affect you — the way you present yourself, dress, act and do! You are you for a reason, and do not let anyone take this away.
If you had to swap lives with someone for a day, who would it be and why?
Kendall Jenner. She is a businesswoman, successful model and celebrity. She is living the dream life, and I would love to experience what she would get up to in a day!
What’s one thing you always have in your handbag (besides your phone)?
I cannot leave the house without lipliner, lip gloss and lipstick — a must for every day!
Window or aisle seat on a flight?
I would have to say the window, always! I love the view.
