LIV Golf and the South Australian Government have confirmed that Adelaide will remain the exclusive home of LIV Golf in Australia under a new agreement extending the partnership through to 2031. The announcement was made in front of thousands of fans at the iconic par-3 No. 12 Watering Hole during the final round of LIV Golf Adelaide, with South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil, and LIV Golf Board Member and Australian golf legend Greg Norman delivering the news.
A Landmark Commitment to Adelaide
This extension solidifies Adelaide’s place as a premier golfing destination, with LIV Golf Adelaide showcasing some of the biggest names in the sport on one of the world’s most unique tournament stages.
“This event is the embodiment of what LIV Golf represents: the biggest stars, the best courses, unmatched experiences, and of course, the best fans in the world,” said O’Neil. “LIV Golf Adelaide is our showcase and brings the vision for all our events across the globe to life. We couldn’t be more thrilled to honour what this community has helped us build over the last three years through a partnership that will take it to even greater heights for years to come.”
The South Australian Government, in collaboration with the Adelaide City Council, has also unveiled plans to redevelop the North Adelaide Golf Course. The redevelopment, to be designed by Greg Norman, will transform the course into one of the world’s best public golfing venues.
A New Era for Golf in Adelaide
The North Adelaide Golf Course redevelopment will support the continued growth of LIV Golf Adelaide, with a new 18-hole Championship Course, a state-of-the-art driving range, and upgraded practice facilities. The project will also ensure that LIV Golf events can be hosted in a central location within the stunning Adelaide Park Lands while providing enhanced year-round facilities for the public.
Greg Norman, a key figure in LIV Golf’s development, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating:
“I’ve dreamed of building a global golf league for 30 years. LIV Golf Adelaide is the realization of what LIV Golf can be around the world. I want to thank Premier Peter Malinauskas, a friend and an incredible leader for South Australia. What LIV Golf has built has never been done before, changing the sport for the better while having a lasting impact on communities like Adelaide. I’m honoured to design a world-class course that will benefit current and future generations here in Australia. Long LIV Golf!”
Economic and Tourism Boost for South Australia
Since its inception, LIV Golf Adelaide has delivered significant economic benefits to South Australia, contributing $136 million in its first two years alone. The tournament has drawn thousands of visitors from across the country and internationally, with a broadcast reach of nearly 800 million viewers across more than 100 territories.
Named the World’s Best Golf Event at the World Golf Awards for two consecutive years, LIV Golf Adelaide has become a marquee event, blending elite competition with a festival-like atmosphere featuring first-class hospitality, family-friendly activities, and headline concerts.
Last year’s tournament at The Grange Golf Club welcomed more than 94,000 fans, generating over 79,000 visitor nights, with guests staying an average of nearly four nights. More than 40% of ticket holders travelled from outside South Australia, underscoring the event’s massive tourism impact.
South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas highlighted the significance of the partnership extension:
“LIV Golf has brought significant global attention to South Australia – and I am delighted to confirm that we have secured the rights to host LIV Golf in Adelaide until 2031. But more than that, I’m thrilled that we will be delivering something truly unique – world golf on the doorstep of one of the world’s most beautiful cities.”
He further emphasised the impact of the North Adelaide Golf Course redevelopment, stating:
“The investments we’re making will deliver a high-quality outcome for our Park Lands, improvements for members of the public who want to play at North Adelaide, and importantly, provide a new home for the growth of LIV Golf Adelaide.”
The Biggest Names in Golf Set to Return
LIV Golf’s star-studded lineup includes some of the biggest names in the sport, with a combined 28 major championship wins among its players. The League’s 13 four-player teams feature elite golfers such as 2024 LIV Golf Individual Champion Jon Rahm (Legion XIII), 2024 Team Champion Ripper GC captain Cameron Smith, as well as Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, and Joaquin Niemann.
With the partnership extension ensuring Adelaide remains the home of LIV Golf in Australia, fans can expect the tournament to continue growing, attracting top-tier talent and solidifying its reputation as one of the world’s premier golf events.
“Seeing LIV get bigger and better means more people from around Australia and the world getting the chance to experience the wonders of our state,” said Premier Malinauskas. “This is about much more than just bringing the world’s best golfers to Adelaide – it’s about telling the story of South Australia to a global audience.”
As anticipation builds for future tournaments, the long-term commitment between LIV Golf and South Australia marks a new era for golf in the region, promising world-class competition, economic prosperity, and a lasting legacy for the sport in Adelaide.
