Rock duo Joel and Benji Madden have announced the formation of a new band, The Madden Brothers, and details of their upcoming debut album.
The brothers are best known as members of the pop punk band Good Charlotte, who have sold over 10 million albums worldwide. More recently, they have been coaches on The Voice Australia.
Their new album Greetings From California… will be released on October 3rd via Capitol Records and EMI Music Australia. It is their first release outside of Good Charlotte.
The record will be split into two stylistically different halves. Side one features upbeat pop rock tracks produced by Eric Valentine, who has previously worked with the band. The first single “We Are Done” drops on June 2nd.
Side two contains folk rock and 70s FM pop sounds produced by Joe Chiccarelli (The White Stripes, The Strokes). Its focus track is “California Rain”, which tells the story of the Maddens’ move from Maryland to California when starting their careers.
In a statement, the brothers said the album is meant to “deliver the truest picture of who we are musically”. They wrote the initial songs during a trip to Miami with Pharrell Williams in 2012.
Fans can expect The Madden Brothers’ signature vocal harmonies and heartfelt lyrics. Joel said making the album “comes down to an acoustic guitar”, much like when they left home for LA at 18.
The Madden Brothers will be releasing more information about Greetings From California… and tour dates in the coming months.
