Users across the globe woke up to widespread disruptions on several Meta platforms this morning, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Threads. Australians are among those impacted, with reports flooding in about difficulties accessing the popular services.
The issue has sparked frustration, as many users are unable to sign in or use these platforms effectively. Downdetector, a website that tracks online outages, recorded more than 100,000 complaints linked to the disruptions.
Meta has not yet issued an official statement addressing the outage. However, its “status and outages of Meta business products” page acknowledges a significant disruption. According to the page, the issue began at 9:58 am PST (4:00 am AEST).
“We are currently experiencing major disruption impacting message delivery on Messenger Platform. This issue started at 9:58am PST. Our engineering teams are investigating the issue. We will provide another update within one hour or sooner if additional information is available,” Meta’s status page noted.
It remains unclear how long these outages will last or what triggered them, leaving users to rely on updates from the company. Meta engineers are actively working on resolving the problem, and more information is expected as the situation develops.
The disruption has highlighted the dependency on Meta’s suite of platforms for both personal and business communication. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical role these platforms play in modern connectivity.
For now, affected users will need to keep an eye on updates from Meta as the company works to restore its services to full functionality.
