International drag sensation Courtney Act will host a dazzling line-up of guests for a night of song, dance and delight as the LGBTQI family is celebrated from across the Commonwealth in Sparkle in the Sand on the Surfers Paradise Main Stage, Monday 9 April as part of Festival 2018.
Marcia Hines, Beccy Cole, Matthew Mitcham, Alfie Arcuri, Jamarz on Mars, Luke Antony and DJ Kitty Glitter will join the star who shot to fame as a semi-finalist on season one of Australian Idol and appearances on Rupaul’s Drag Race and at Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
Curator George Savoulis (best known as Creative Director of the Sydney Mardi Gras Party that attracts over 12,000 party-goers after the Parade each year) and Artist Producer Luke Nutley say Sparkle in the Sand will be a rainbow party for everyone.
“This is a chance for the entire community to come together and celebrate our global LGBTQI family – the ups, downs, the love, the joy and the acceptance.
“We invite everyone to come along, kick off your heels, loafers or bedazzled thongs and relax into a very special evening of song, dance, laughs and delights,” Mr Savoulis said.
Festival 2018 Gold Coast Co-Creative Director Yaron Lifschitz says Sparkle in the Sand is a true celebration of diversity, equality and pride.
“The second act of Festival 2018 Gold Coast is called Change and Sparkle in the Sand celebrates the movement for change that we are seeing in our own country and around the world for LGBTQI equality.
“Each country, community and individual has their own struggle. For some countries, like ours, the most recent journey has been the one that has led to marriage equality,” Mr Lifschitz said.
Sparkle in the Sand is one highlight of Festival 2018, 12 action-packed days of culture taking over the Gold Coast from 4-15 April to celebrate GC2018.
