It’s that exciting time of year again! We’re chatting with Mia Mihaljevic from New South Wales, one of the 28 remarkable and accomplished women from diverse backgrounds vying for the title of Miss Universe Australia 2024. The winner is set to be crowned in the Grand Ballroom at Crown Perth on the 5th of September.
I’m Mia. I grew up in Sydney with my mum, dad, and sister; we moved here from Croatia when I was very young. Music is my heart and soul, and I find peace and purpose in creating and sharing my voice with people. I’m also a passionate animal lover, drawn to the unconditional love and companionship they offer. I studied interior design, and after completing my bachelor’s, I dove into styling work. As a designer, I strive to create environments that not only look beautiful but also have a meaningful impact on the world and the relationships around us. When I’m not immersed in my creative pursuits, I enjoy discovering new flavours in the kitchen and connecting with nature.
I’m always looking to create meaningful connections and I’m a big believer that life takes you where you are meant to be. So, it might be a little bit of an unexpected answer, but I didn’t think too much about entering the contest; I felt compelled by a greater force to do so, and I’m certain the reasons for my participation will continue to unravel in the months and years to come.
VietJet and Hoiana Resort created the experience of a lifetime! Vietnam should be so proud of the way they have represented their country and their incomparable hospitality towards the MUA teams.
The highlight of the trip for me would have to be the camaraderie that blossomed throughout the trip between all the girls as well as our team members. It’s clear to see that everyone wants to see the success of one another, and that’s a feeling that feeds the soul. Also, Hoiana Resort… need I say more?
The Miss Universe team suggested I get up and sing in front of everyone at one of our dinners. I perform for a living, but performing in front of 30 or so of your peers, unprepared, has got to be the most nerve-wracking experience. However, in the end, everyone got up to sing and dance with me, so I would say it turned into one of my favourite memories.
Follow that guiding light as you always do and allow the experience to shape you in all the ways meant for you.
I believe everyone has their own unique skill set, talent, persona, and flair. In saying that, it makes us all unique and individual from each other. I can’t say what sets me apart because that might be in the eye of the beholder. However, I do know that I remain authentic to myself and the goals I set for my life.
I’m extremely introverted despite all the things I do, and I can eat A LOT.
I would love to restore a castle somewhere in the world and call it my home. I would keep the integrity of the castle’s original build while upgrading and revamping some of the finishes and styling. Once I was finished, I would open it up to the public to relish in and dedicate my time to philanthropic ventures.
If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be and why?
Learning any language or instrument.
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
Lived in Europe for a year right out of high school and travelled to many countries.
Do you have a guilty pleasure that you enjoy?
I try not to feel guilty about my pleasures, but maybe, sleeping A LOT!
If you could have any superpower for a day, what would it be and how would you use it?
I would turn back time and get a definite answer on the historical timeline of Earth. Who built the pyramids, where did dinosaurs go, witness evolution, etc.
Mia, along with the other Miss Universe Australia Finalists, have collectively raised over $500,000 to support ToyBox and its official 2024 charities: Camp Quality and Ronald McDonald House. You can donate now using the link below.
