As Cyclone Alfred impacts South East Queensland, grocery delivery service Milkrun has announced a suspension of grocery orders. Customers attempting to place grocery orders were met with a notice stating that deliveries are currently unavailable due to the severe weather conditions.
However, in an unexpected move, the company has confirmed that alcohol orders through the Jimmy Brings service will still be fulfilled. A promotional banner further emphasises this, offering a $10 discount on alcohol orders over $60.
The decision to halt grocery deliveries while continuing alcohol sales has sparked mixed reactions. Some customers have expressed concern over the prioritisation of non-essential goods, especially as severe weather events often leave households in need of basic necessities.
While Milkrun has assured customers that grocery services will resume once conditions improve, the selective continuation of alcohol delivery raises questions about business priorities during the lead up to a major weather event.
For now, South East Queensland residents affected by Cyclone Alfred will have to look elsewhere for their grocery needs—but they won’t be short on drinks.
