The cast and crew of Mortal Kombat II brought the action back to where it all started for the film’s Official Australian Preview on the Gold Coast. Fans turned out in force at Event Cinemas in Pacific Fair to see their favourite stars walk the red carpet, celebrating a major homecoming for the highly anticipated sequel.
The movie was filmed just down the road at Village Roadshow Studios, making this event a true local celebration. Key cast members including Karl Urban, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Chin Han, CJ Bloomfield, Ana Thu Nguyen, and Desmond Chiam were all in attendance. They were joined by director and producer Simon McQuoid to mark the special occasion.
This production was a massive win for the Queensland screen industry. The Honourable John-Paul Langbroek MP, Minister for Education and the Arts, attended the event and spoke about the film’s significant local footprint. According to the Minister, Mortal Kombat II generated an estimated $68 million for the local economy. It also provided jobs for more than 560 people, covering local actors and crew members. Furthermore, Australian talent extended to post-production, with Rising Sun Pictures completing crucial work on the project.
Minister Langbroek praised the effort, noting that the collective work of the crew is ready to light up global screens. Supported by Screen Queensland, the production highlights the world-class capabilities and versatile locations available on the Gold Coast.
