Billed as a fresh take on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic 1930s semi-autobiographical novels, the project is described in its logline as an “epic survival tale” and an “origin story of the American West”. The series promises a “kaleidoscopic view” of the struggles and triumphs that shaped the frontier.
The production brings together notable industry figures, with Rebecca Sonnenshine acting as Showrunner and Executive Producer. It is produced by CBS Studios and Anonymous Content, with directing duties shared among Sarah Adina Smith, Julie Anne Robinson, Kat Candler, Erica Tremblay, and Sydney Freeland.
The franchise continues to hold significant global appeal. Half a century after the 1974 television programme debuted, Nielsen reported that audiences spent 13.25 billion minutes viewing the classic adaptation in 2024 alone.
