Based on the bestselling novel by Shelby Van Pelt, the new film Remarkably Bright Creatures comes out on May 8, according to a recent update from Netflix Tudum.
The story focuses on Tova, a widow who spends her time working at a local aquarium. While there, she strikes up a highly unusual friendship with a giant Pacific octopus named Marcellus. Marcellus is a rather curmudgeonly creature, but he is secretly on a mission to solve a mystery. Unbeknownst to Tova, this mystery has the power to heal her heart and lead her toward a life-changing discovery.
The film features an impressive cast, bringing together Sally Field, Lewis Pullman, Colm Meaney, Joan Chen, Kathy Baker, Beth Grant, and Sofia Black D’Elia. Behind the scenes, Olivia Newman directs the project and shares writing credits with John Whittington.
The production team is also robust. Bryan Unkeless and Peter Craig are producing for Night Owl, while David Levine produces for Anonymous Content. Executive producers include Alyssa Rodrigues, Tony Lipp, Erika Hampson, Olivia Newman, Shelby Van Pelt, and Alisa Tager.
If you loved the original book, this adaptation promises to bring the unique bond between Tova and Marcellus straight to your screen. Keep an eye out for the premiere this May.
