Filming has kicked off for Jump, a high-stakes survival thriller directed by acclaimed New Zealand filmmaker Tearepa Kahi, known for his work on Muru and Mt. Zion.

If you are a fan of edge-of-your-seat cinema, this is one to watch. The production is heading straight for the Gold Coast, making use of stunning regional locations, including Tamborine Mountain, to set the scene.

Who is Starring in ‘Jump’?

The gripping feature brings together some serious rising talent. Bella Shepard, who fans will recognise from the upcoming Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, joins Luciane Buchanan, known for The Night Agent, Chief of War, and Evil Dead Burn.

The story follows a young traveller heading out on a quest for escape and adventure. Unsurprisingly for a thriller, things take a dark turn, transforming her journey into a brutal fight for survival.

The film is an official Australia-New Zealand co-production, brought to life by award-winning filmmaker and screenwriter Tom Blackwell alongside New Zealand producer Matthew Metcalfe.

A Win for the Local Economy

Beyond bringing a thrilling story to the screen, Jump is delivering tangible benefits to the local area. Minister for the Arts John-Paul Langbroek noted that the project highlights Queensland’s growing reputation as a destination for globally connected screen production.

“The production brings together acclaimed international talent and local screen practitioners, reinforcing Queensland’s ability to deliver ambitious productions with global appeal,” Langbroek said.

He also pointed out the real-world impact of the shoot, adding: “Supported through Screen Queensland’s Screen Finance Fund, the production is expected to inject an estimated $3.1 million into the Queensland economy while employing 59 local cast and crew, creating valuable opportunities for local businesses.”

Jump is just the latest in a growing lineup of successful co-productions supported by Screen Queensland. It joins titles like FING!, Dustfall, The Mark, Kung Fu Deadly, and We are Still Here.

Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney shared her thoughts on why these international partnerships are so vital for the future of the local industry.

“Co-productions are increasingly important to the future of screen production, attracting new investment, expanding global partnerships and opening opportunities for Queensland creatives to work on internationally focused projects,” Feeney explained.

“This project reflects the strength of the creative and production relationship between Queensland and New Zealand while showcasing the depth of talent across our local industry.”

With backing from the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland’s Screen Finance Fund, alongside The Gold Coast Film Commission and Invest Gold Coast’s Screen Attraction Program, Jump is set to be a standout thriller that champions regional talent on a global stage.
