Occy's Grom Comp hits the Gold Coast this weekend!

The 2014 Billabong Occy’s Grom Comp, presented by Breaka kicks off this weekend with over 250 of the country’s most talented junior surfers all flocking to the Gold Coast in chase of one of the most coveted crowns in surfing.
2014 is the 11th Annual Billabong Occy’s Grom Comp, presented by Breaka that sees competition begin the moment the event opens for entries. This year, an hour was all it took for the event to fill, reiterating the popularity of the event in the name of one of the sport’s biggest icons, 1999 World Champion Mark “Occy” Occhilupo.
The event caters to boys and girls from 12 and Under divisions through to the blue-ribbon 16 and Under.
2013 16 and Under Champions, Reef Doig (Bali, Indonesia) and Coolum’s Isabella Nichols are both missing from this year’s draw, which will open the door for Australia’s emerging talent to step up and etch their names alongside Doig and Nichols’.
North Stradbroke’s Ethan Ewing just missed on a win in the 16 and Under division last year, placing second to Doig in the final minutes of the final. Ewing went on to incur a severe injury in competition late last year and will be looking to come back stronger than ever at this year’s Billabong Occy’s Grom Comp, presented by Breaka.
The 2014 Billabong Occy’s Grom Comp, presented by Breaka will be based at Duranbah on Queensland’s Gold Coast from Saturday 28th June to Thursday 3rd July.
The Billabong Occy’s Grom Comp, presented by Breaka is proudly supported by SeaFm, Southern Cross Ten, Surfing Life Magazine, Kustom, Kirra Surf, JS Surfboards, Fast Proof Press, Vonzipper, SupaGlu and Surfing Queensland.
Competitors and spectators can call the Surfing Queensland Event Hotline after 6:30am each morning of competition for a confirmed start time and location Ph# (07) 30306388
