QTFWA - Designers corner with Zingiber

Today we chat with Nicola Spicer of Zingiber in our Designers Corner section giving you an insight into the workings of the Label.
Who is Zingiber….?
“Untamed. Wild. – She is Zingiber”
This unique swimwear line has a collection of vibrant, globally-inspired prints that are exclusively designed in house. Zingiber brings the world to your beach, with its form fitting flair and unique accessories.
These designs are dedicated to the confident, edgy woman who likes to make a statement, take risks while still maintaining an element of sophistication.
Made from high end materials sourced from Europe and beautifully made in Australia.
When and what led you to the realisation you wanted to start designing …?
After studying design at university and then traveling around the globe where I saw the beauty and cultures of this world, I was heavily influenced through my design processes.
Always living by the ocean and never being able to find any swimwear that caught my eye, I decided to make my own label that was different from the rest, I also wanted it to be specifically Australian made, which was very important to me.
So, that is when I began drawing up my own textile prints to be printed on lycra.
What was the first item you designed…?
A black and electric blue neoprene bikini.
What is your favourite part of the design process..?
Making beautiful textile designs from scratch.
‘Collection el Niño SS14/15’ – the textile prints in this collection all started from pen to paper, then they were perfected into repeat patterns.
Inspiration is a big part of any process where do you draw yours from …?
Travel, culture and arts that I have seen around the world.
When sketching out your latest designs do you have anything that helps you get creative a favourite music, food or process …?
Chilling on the couch outside with no distractions, good coffee, listening to Buddha Radio!
How would you describe your brands market and style …?
Zingiber is an exclusive fashion label for woman of all ages and for those who  want a unique quality made Australian garment.
Our style is classic, beautiful, sophisticated and also a little edgy.
What does Australia fashion mean to you and what would you say makes it uniquely Australian …?
The Australian fashion world is filled with some amazingly talented designers of such high calibre, it is also a great platform to to launch a label internationally.
Zingber will always incorporate Australian culture into our designs and will always be Australian made.
We did our last photoshoot at a little spot south of Perth with these Aussie beach shacks overlooking the ocean, it was beautiful and had great support from the local community down there. In our designs we have incorporated a lot of Australian birds and marine life, we have also used a colour palette that portrays the colours of the Australian beach life.
Where can our readers get their hand on your label …?
As of June 1st we will be online for exclusive pre sales via www.zingiber.com.au, also come see our shop at the “QT Fashion Day Out” – in the Ballroom of the QT Gold Coast on Sunday 1st June 9am-12noon.
