Gold Coast, Queensland, Saturday 18th May, 2013: Over 80 of Queensland’s best surfers hit the beach at Nobby’s on the Gold Coast for event one of the two-event Queensland Masters and Women’s series today. Snapper Rocks local and defending Open Women’s champion, Brodie Doyle advanced through the opening round of the Open Women’s division along with her sister Amiya. Both will appear again tomorrow as they attempt to qualify for selection into the Queensland team for next month’s Australian titles at Port Macquarie, NSW. The series is the exclusive qualification pathway to the 2013 Australian SurfMasters Titles, where Queensland competitors will compete for the chance to become an Australian Surfing Champion in their respective divisions. The winner of the Open Women’s division across the two-event series will also earn the right to compete in the Trials of the 2014 Association of Surfing Professionals Roxy Pro – Gold Coast. Tomorrow will see champions crowned across all Masters and Women’s divisions and ratings leads established in the lead up the event two of the series, scheduled to run on the Sunshine Coast 22nd-23rd June.
