Queensland State Champions crowned at the Queensland Longboard Titles.

Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Sunday 2nd June, 2013: The State’s best longboarders have fought it out in the finals of the State titles for their chance to surf for Queensland at the Australian Titles in Port Macquarie later this year. Alexandra Headland turned on great waves for the second and final day of the event, offering long rides and plenty of scoring potential. It was a seesawing battle between the Gold and Sunshine Coasts with Burleigh’s Clinton Guest and Buderim’s Nic Jones in both the Blue Ribbon Open Men’s division, in which Jones claimed with a combined-wave total of 12.83 (out of possible 20 points), and Guest taking out the newly-formed Loggers division with a combined-wave total of 15.53. In the Open Women’s final it was Erin Dark (Tugun, QLD) who claimed honours with a combined-wave total of 11.56 over Leanne Gilkes (Buderim, QLD – 9.56), Kathryn Hughes (Currimundi, QLD -9.10), Jane Tranberg (Coolangatta, QLD – 4.54) and Yvette Kordick (Cotton Tree, QLD – 4.27). Both Nic Jones and Erin Dark home take home a new surfboard donated by South Coast Foam and Fiberglass and Harvey Surfboards for their Open division wins. The distribution of State Team places for this weekend’s divisions are as follows: U/18 Boys – Four U/18 Girls – Two Open Men – Six Open Women – Four O/35 Men – Three O/35 Women – Two O/40 Men – Three O/45 Men – Three O/50 Men – Three O/55 Men – Three O/60 Men – Three O/65 Men – One Loggers – Six Surfers will now head to Port Macquarie later in the year to surf for their chance to represent Australia at the World Longboard Titles.
