Uncle Su is the new flagship restaurant set to open in early October at The Star Gold Coast; the fun, vibrant and family-friendly restaurant will be serving up classic Cantonese cuisine made with local and Australian ingredients.

Uncle Su will be located in the entryway to The Star Gold Coast’s new tower set to open later in the year. The restaurant's name comes from the respected term of Uncle in Chinese tradition, a name that represents the authentic Chinese family dining experience with secret recipes and shared signature dishes lovingly prepared.

Executive Chef Song Yao Su has perfected his craft over an extensive thirty-five years working in the world’s finest restaurants. Learning his skilful techniques from one of Hong Kong’s most revered and decorated chefs, Pui Wing Hui, cooking alongside the master for over a decade, including an impressive tenure at Las Vegas’s invitation-only residences, The Mansions.

At Uncle Su, he will bring together this experience with his own heritage and family memories to curate a range of Cantonese dishes with his signature Nouvelle style and new world flavours, sure to be a favourite of diners from all over.

The Star Gold Coast’s COO, Jessica Mellor, said: “After a difficult 18 months for the local hospitality industry, we are proud to launch the next restaurant that forms part of our continuing investment in the resort and welcome diners from Queensland and across the country to The Star Gold Coast”.

“Uncle Su will be a restaurant for any occasion, to be enjoyed by family and friends of all generations; a place of warmth and laughter, good times and even better food. Exactly what we have all longed for over the past year”.

Live seafood will be the star of the show; guests are to be greeted by a spectacular display of fish tanks filled with locally sourced lobsters and crabs. Queensland groper, Barramundi, Abalone and Coral Trout are also to be heroes throughout the menu.

All seafood will be sourced under The Star’s evolving sustainable seafood strategy, which aims to provide season choices and reduce the environmental impact and support local fisheries.

Uncle Su will also be serving up Chef Song’s Peking Duck, marinated in his own secret sauce for 24 hours before being roasted and cooked to perfection and carved tableside for guests to experience the freshest and best experience.

The restaurant fit-out has been created by award-winning local architecture firm Plus Architecture, taking its design cues from respected Chinese tradition, The Australian landscape, and the Gold Coast's energy.
Think traditional Chinese design elements and bespoke handcrafted materials like oversized lanterns, a golden money tree and beautiful koi fish motifs, all bathed in a sea of red, gold, cool ocean blue and jade green. The result is a vibrant and energetic space that evokes a sense of happiness and prosperity to all who visit.
