Gold Coasters are being encouraged to speak up about fresh plans to transform the heart of Surfers Paradise, with an updated design aiming to create a more open, greener and people-friendly precinct along The Esplanade.
The revised plans focus on a 250-metre stretch between Hanlan Street and the Soul building, where The Esplanade will be reshaped into a pedestrian-friendly zone. This key upgrade is set to enhance the connection between the beach and Cavill Mall, making the area more accessible and enjoyable for locals and visitors alike.
Division 10 councillor Darren Taylor said the redesign was driven by strong community feedback, with residents calling for more shade, greenery and public open space.
“We have listened to what you said and this design has more shade, greenery and public open space,” Cr Taylor said.
“The Surfers Paradise Revitalisation Project reimagines the heart of the suburb and the updated design incorporates what the community wants.”
The vision is to create a flexible space that supports recreation, community activities and events of all sizes, while improving safety and accessibility in the busy central precinct.
“This new space will be used for recreational and community activities, as well as small and large-scale events,” Cr Taylor added.
The City of Gold Coast has committed $100 million to the broader revitalisation of Cavill Mall, Cavill Avenue and The Esplanade as part of this major upgrade.
Community consultation is now open, with residents invited to view the updated design and provide feedback until Monday 28 April.
