It’s that exciting time of year again! We’re chatting with Tatum Oksanen of Queensland, one of the 28 remarkable and accomplished women from diverse backgrounds vying for the title of Miss Universe Australia 2024. The winner is set to be crowned in the Grand Ballroom at Crown Perth on the 5th of September.
I have grown up in Queensland and moved to the Gold Coast about two years ago. I am currently studying to become a naturopath and have also worked as a model for the past few years. I am passionate about health and fitness, love going to the gym, and spending time with my loved ones.
One of my good friends participated in Miss Universe Australia last year. I witnessed her confidence grow and saw her flourish since the program.
The experience was amazing! I had never been to Asia before, so I thoroughly enjoyed the cultural experience. The resort was one of the most beautiful I have ever visited, and it was a trip I will never forget.
I really enjoyed the day we spent out in town (apart from the heat!). It was great to witness the real culture of Vietnam and see some of the historical sites. We were also able to visit a school for deaf and hearing-impaired students, which was a wonderful and wholesome experience.
The NIDA acting class day pushed me out of my comfort zone. It involved improvisational acting as well as discussing our weaknesses in public speaking. However, I learnt a great deal from the class and definitely took away useful tips and tricks for public speaking.
Some advice I would give to my younger self would be to not be so hard on yourself and not to get so anxious about the small things. I would tell myself to be confident, be yourself, and not worry too much about what other people think.
Something that sets me apart is my strong interest in natural health and naturopathy. I would love to help others with this as well.
I have never badly injured myself or broken a bone before.
A dream project for me would be to create my own business in the health industry—whether it be a supplement brand or activewear.
I would love to master the skill of designing and making my own clothes so I can create exactly what I want.
The most adventurous thing I’ve done was going overseas to Istanbul for a modelling contract. I flew over by myself and stayed in a model apartment for a few months. It was a great experience, and I really enjoyed it!
Chocolate!
I would love to be able to teleport—this way, I could travel for free!
Tatum, along with the other Miss Universe Australia Finalists, have collectively raised over $500,000 to support ToyBox and its official 2024 charities: Camp Quality and Ronald McDonald House. You can donate now using the link below.
