As a keen lover of anything to do with design and becoming a little nester myself, I had been an avid watcher of Channel 10’s The Renovators. Naturally, I jumped at the chance to have a chat with local Gold Coast boy Luke Pollock and his wife Robbie while visiting one of my favourite stores, The Shed Vintage & Retro in Southport.
In my experience, these reality TV shows are quite masterful at portraying these stars in a particular way, which is usually the complete opposite of their normal personality. But upon meeting Luke, what struck me instantly was the fact that they were spot on with his humble and down-to-earth attitude. Must be the Gold Coast way….
The minute we started talking about his experience, you could see the spark in his eyes light up when he spoke of the Inner City Terrace. The property was very much his baby, and from the very beginning, he took ownership as if he was renovating it for his wife and two beautiful children. Like most reality TV stars, there is always a component of frustration. Luke spent a gruelling six months away from his family and his business, which was a massive commitment in itself. Luke told me the most difficult part of the show was definitely being away from Robbie and the girls. “They are my inspiration, and we’re all such a team,” he said. Awww. Unsurprisingly, the producers chose to show certain things which didn’t include the massive amount of work that Luke did himself, the late nights, and no sleep. I could go on, but at the end of the day, the fact that Luke won the Best Renovation, as chosen by the judges, shows the skill, craftsmanship, dedication, passion, and commitment Luke brought to the show and to the Inner City Terrace that made it the incredible finished product it was. Luke left The Renovators with the Runner-Up position in the competition at the auction finale, but he was the winner in the hearts of the viewers. With over 10 years of experience under his belt, Luke has definitely built himself as a reputable game player in the building industry.
From full residential renovations to commercial fit-outs, Luke has now shown Australia that GC Exteriors and Construction has all the consulting, building, and styling requirements for any job with the help of Robbie, a property stylist. “It’s great working with Robbie as I take care of the building side of things, and she’s an awesome stylist,” Luke boasts.
The decision to go on the show was an easy one, Robbie told me. “After seeing a casting call on TV, I knew it was a great opportunity to gain some exposure for Luke and our business. Luke is so talented at what he does.” And it seems his talents now extend to modeling as the show has boosted his profile in the media. So keep an eye out for him, Gold Coast. This isn’t the last we’ve seen of ‘Luke The Renovator’ yet.
These two are a power couple for sure, talented, young, and sassy. It’s clear they are an unstoppable team. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them and am looking forward to having GC Exteriors and Construction quote on renovating my bathroom. Stay tuned…
