Australian musical icon, Tina Arena, has entered a bold new era, marking 50 extraordinary years in music and performance. On Friday evening, 5 September, the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra honoured the legendary singer with the unveiling of a newly commissioned portrait by acclaimed photographer Georges Antoni.
The portrait — a powerful diptych — captures Tina Arena’s unmistakable presence, strength and artistic spirit. It’s a tribute not just to her legacy, but to her ongoing impact on Australian and international music and culture.
As part of the evening’s celebration, guests were treated to a surprise performance by Arena herself. In a rare, intimate set, she premiered two striking reinterpretations: Max Q’s “Way of the World” and New Order’s “True Faith.” She was joined on stage by longtime collaborators ARIA Award-winning producer Francois Tétaz (Gotye, Kimbra) and acclaimed pianist-composer Luke Howard (Royal Ballet, Lior). Both tracks are set to appear on her forthcoming EP — the inaugural release from her new label, Positive Dream Records.
This milestone evening also signals the official launch of TINA 5.0 — a multi-year celebration of Arena’s five-decade journey through music. Spanning 2026 and 2027, TINA 5.0 will include a suite of new creative ventures:
- Domestic and international tours
- A brand-new EP and additional releases
- A deeply personal documentary exploring her life and artistry
Tina reflected on the moment:
“It’s hard to believe it’s been fifty years since I first stepped into the spotlight at just eight years old as a contestant on Young Talent Time. To have that journey honoured by the National Portrait Gallery is incredibly special. But what excites me most is that there is still so much more to come. This next artistic chapter is about freedom, creativity and sharing my truth and experiences on my own terms and I want my beautiful loyal fans to celebrate with me.”
With a career filled with chart-topping hits, award-winning albums and unforgettable live performances, Tina Arena remains one of Australia’s most powerful voices and authentic storytellers. TINA 5.0 not only pays tribute to the past but carves a path forward — a future filled with music, passion and possibility.
