“What defines great champions is not only how they win. It is their ability to endure one more ball”.
Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for Rafa, the new documentary series about Rafael Nadal, premiering globally on May 29. Produced by Skydance Sports, the four-episode series offers unprecedented access to one of the most admired athletes of all time, revealing the unseen effort that sustained a champion for more than two decades.
The production retraces his remarkable journey with cinematic scope, spanning from his beginnings at just three years old to his return to competition in 2024. It revisits the defining moments of his career, including his historic victories at Roland Garros and the rivalry that defined a generation of tennis alongside Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
However, the series aims to reveal the man behind the legend by combining unseen moments with testimonies from those who know him best on and off the court. The documentary explores the life, story, and legacy of an unparalleled icon, highlighting the physical and emotional toll that has shaped his path. Viewers are shown the pain, the constant pressure, and his determination to keep moving forward even when his body seemed unable to continue. Time and again, Nadal faces his most constant rival: his own body.

Directed by Emmy Award winner and Oscar nominee Zach Heinzerling, whose previous credits include Stolen Youth and McCartney 3,2,1, the series is produced by David Ellison, Jesse Sisgold, Jason Reed, and Jon Weinbach.
Heinzerling noted the unique angle of the project. “With Rafa’s story, triumph is expected; what surprised me was his willingness to reveal the uncertainty and vulnerability behind that greatness,” the director said. Ultimately, Rafa spotlights a candid and vulnerable superstar, revealing the level of dedication, sacrifice, and resilience required to remain at the top.
