TREAT your senses at the Flavours of Metro Street Party

Flavours of Metro Street Party returns with the city’s most colourful celebration of diversity, headlined by iconic Australian blues and rock band The Black Sorrows. Taking place on Saturday, October 7, Flavours of Metro’s jubilant cultural showcase will spill out onto the streets of Gold Coast Chinatown with an international smorgasbord of tempting food and beverage offerings, along with non-stop live entertainment and fun for all the family. Presented by Southport’s most contemporary al fresco dining precinct, Australia Fair Metro, the unique event features a free live concert by The Black Sorrows, one of Australia’s best-loved and most enduring touring bands. In 2017, the street party is hosted in conjunction with the Chinatown Street Markets, promising an even greater array of delicious cuisine available from popular Australia Fair Metro restaurants, as well as from street food market vendors spread throughout Gold Coast Chinatown located on Young and Davenport Streets. Australia Fair general manager Ramon Otten invites local families and visitors to celebrate the Metro experience at the free, family-friendly street party. “We are thrilled to present our second annual Flavours of Metro Street Party, which marks Metro’s first birthday and is an opportunity for us to give back to the community, who have already established Australia Fair’s vibrant new western precinct as a meeting place for people from all walks of life,” Mr Otten said. “This year, we have collaborated with the Chinatown Street Markets to bring an even greater element of diversity to this exciting event, with guests able to wander the precinct and surrounding streets and choose from an amazing variety of delicious food.” “We invite our local families to come along, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a free, community-oriented evening of quality entertainment and performances,” he said. A fun evening out for all ages, Flavours of Metro Street Party boasts a festival atmosphere with a spectacular program of roving street entertainment and fun for the kids including a jumping castle, face painting, arts and craft activities, and motorised animal rides. From 7.30 pm to 9 pm, The Black Sorrows perform on the main street stage, delighting revellers young and old with their classic blend of rhythm, blues, rock and soul. Fronted by industry legend Joe Camilleri, The Black Sorrows have produced hits through the years that live on in the national consciousness including Hold on to Me, Chained to the Wheel, Harley and Rose and Snakeskin Shoes. Formed in 1983, The Black Sorrows continue to tour worldwide and in September released their 17th studio album, Faithful Satellite. The event, now in its second year, will showcase Australia Fair Metro’s impressive foodie offering, with eateries including the Burrito Bar, The Grill House, SoPo Dining Room, Kubo’s Bar and Grill, Tian Shan and more, serving mouth-watering cuisine all evening. Delicious street food from China, Japan, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Philippines and Korea will also be available from more than 20 vendors spread throughout the festival precinct. Flavours of Metro Street Party returns in 2017 following the success of its inaugural event, which marked the launch of Metro, the first phase of Australia Fair’s historic $25 million re-development. Australia Fair Metro, located at the centre’s western precinct, contributed to Southport’s evolution as the Gold Coast’s CBD with its vibrant mix of alfresco dining, cafes, fresh food, general retail and lifestyle services. Australia Fair’s revitalisation is on track for completion later this year as construction progresses inside and out of the bustling shopping centre.
