It’s that exciting time of year again! We’re chatting with Unice Abwoyo of Western Australia, one of the 28 remarkable and accomplished women from diverse backgrounds vying for the title of Miss Universe Australia 2024. The winner is set to be crowned in the Grand Ballroom at Crown Perth on the 5th of September.
Hi, my name is Unice, also known as Mama Unice. I’m 22 years old from Perth, WA. I’m currently a full-time content creator, host, and model who’s also studying business law. I would describe myself as free-spirited, smiley, and confident.
The program’s increasing diversity and inclusiveness motivated me to take the leap and apply to be a part of Miss Universe Australia. Over the years, I’ve come to realise that the MUA program is much more than just beauty. It’s a programme that helps women develop their confidence by providing a safe space for them to share their stories and make a difference in both their personal and professional lives, all with the support of sponsors who understand and are willing to support their goals and aspirations.
I can only describe my experience travelling to Vietnam, courtesy of VietJet, and staying at the incredible Hoiana Resort & Golf as breathtakingly unimaginable. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that opened my eyes and heart to a rich historical culture and its mouth-watering cuisine.
For me, visiting Hearing and Beyond and interacting with the children via sign language and dance was the highlight of the trip. I will always cherish that fundamental experience.
An experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone in Vietnam was our official swimsuit photoshoot. As much as I’m confident, I’ve always found it hard to embrace and show myself in a bikini. Being in front of the camera was extremely nerve-wracking, but having such an incredible support network behind the scenes and camera made it much easier.
Some advice I would give to my younger self would be to never let the opinions of those around you or society dictate who you are and what you are capable of achieving. Remember, you’re always enough and stay true to who you are and love each and every single part of yourself unconditionally. Without self-love, you can’t carry yourself confidently.
What sets me apart from the other finalists would be my energy. It’s my ability to confidently walk into a room and completely change the atmosphere of the environment I’m in through my love of dance, laughter, and charisma.
Something people might find surprising about me is that I’ve played rugby for five years.
If I could work on any dream project without limitations, it would be starting up my own business venture and creating my dream content and dance studio. A safe space that would allow others to let their creative minds run wild and freely express themselves through not just their unique imagination but also through the universal language of dance.
Speaking multiple languages, as I love travelling and connecting with others globally.
The most adventurous thing I’ve ever done would be climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Watching anime and K-dramas.
If I could have any superpower, it would be the ability to read minds. I think mind reading is a great way to help improve communication and relationships. Through mind reading, you can sense and perceive others’ thoughts and feelings, allowing you to support and relate to others better.
Unice, along with the other Miss Universe Australia Finalists, has collectively raised over $500,000 to support ToyBox and its official 2024 charities: Camp Quality and Ronald McDonald House. You can donate now using the link below.
